Job Description Experimental Test Strategy EngineerFull Time Derby The Experimental Engineering team own the strategyfor all Experimental Verification and Validation capability withinthe business (supporting in-service boats through to future boatprojects and new technologies being investigated). We are lookingfor a proactive individual to join the test capability and strategyarea to ensure the test capabilities and test facilities atRolls-Royce Submarines and externally (academia and the supplychain) meet the Rolls-Royce Submarines' test data needs today andfor the future. The scope of the Experimental Test StrategyEngineer role includes investigating and determining (alongsidetechnical customers) what data is needed, how it can be gathered,and where it should be generated. As a central cross-project role,the Experimental Test Strategy Engineer has unique visibility ofhow multiple different project demands can be optimally deliveredindividually or collectively. In turn, they steer/deploy thetesting and measurement technology we have available today andwhere we ought to invest in developing these capabilities for thefuture. Why Rolls-Royce? What youwill be doing As an Experimental Test Strategy Engineer yourprimary responsibilities will include: Developing, implementing,and managing long term roadmaps for specific areas (includingthermal hydraulic, high-fidelity measurement, acoustic, component,shock, materials and secondary propulsion testing) and for both newand existing test facilities, including their delivery. Integratingwith key capability areas across the business to ensure the testingroadmaps provide the necessary test capability today and, in thefuture, to service the business testing needs. Including test,measurement, and data capabilities. Act as the point of contact forincoming test requests from across the business, undertaking theinitial key stakeholder engagement and requirements and ensuring itis integrated into the right area of Technical Development.Generate the initial principal testing solution. Includingcapturing key testing requirements, owning the first stage of thetest data acquisition tube map, shaping the key testingrequirements, and leading the development and endorsement of themain testing options. Engage with the broader ExperimentalEngineering Team, as well as rig operators and technicians in ouron-site engineering laboratory to deliver a suite of experimentaltesting programmes as required. Engage with external organisationsand in research projects at our University Technology Centres,particularly in relation to fluid dynamics, heat transfer, andnovel experimental measurement techniques. To be successful in this role, the following experience isdesirable: Degree or equivalent in a relevant engineering orscience-based subject. Experience of strategy and capabilitydevelopment and its implementation. Experience of conductingexperimental testing to support technical development or V&V,relevant to engineering. Understanding measurement techniques,methods and accuracies. Understanding of the Submarine Enterpriseand the role of test programmes within the V&V of our products.Good interpersonal, time management and problem-solving skills.Ability to work to Rolls-Royce company processes in order to ensurequality of output; and to Health, Safety and Environmental rulesand legislation.
