REPORTS TO: Managing Director
FUNCTION: Commercial
1. PURPOSE OF JOB
Lead physical trading of a range of refined metals and/or speciality alloys that includes base metals, noble alloys, minor metals and ferro alloys. This will involve interfacing with high integrity segments such as aerospace, energy, automotive, defence and medical.
Sales will be into all economically viable regions so travel will be expected.
2. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Provide leadership and direction to a small group of traders in order to maximise profits and control.
A solid commitment to evaluating how technology can be embraced to improve efficiency and provide the company with greater reach i.e. AI, digital marketing, metalshub style platforms.
Emphasis on identifying profitable commercial opportunities to grow revenue, market share and profit within existing and new customers inclusive of small-scale capital spend proposals where applicable.
Responsibility for sales that could include Ni, Cr, Sn, Cu, AL, Mo, W, Ta, Re pure and ferro alloys among others, and a range of recycled nickel and cobalt bearing alloys.
Work within the confines of group credit control and risk management and/or perform adequate due diligence to control risk outside of it with the applicable authority to commit (ATC).
Working with a range of current suppliers and customers to retain and grow sales of Company’s products, including development of new suppliers in metals source countries of origin.
Develop new suppliers and customers both home and abroad through strong cultural awareness and establishing local partners where applicable.
Make regular proposals for product developments relative to market trends and be cognisant of the timeframes associated with such relative to commercialisation.
Develop and maintain positive relationships with customers, manufacturers, traders, and partners and provide an escalation point where necessary for your staff.
Ensuring that regular reviews are carried out with customers, to ensure that their needs are being met and that excellent customer service is achieved and developing future improvements/services for the customers.
Representing the company externally at networking events, conferences, and exhibition to enhance and strengthen the company’s profile and optimise all business development opportunities.
Ensuring that all commercial activities meet or improve on budget, cost, volume, and efficiency targets (key performance indicators) in line with business objectives.

The position exists to drive forward the commercial activities of refined metals and speciality alloy segments, ensuring budget assumptions are met or exceeded and a pipeline of new opportunities are routinely evaluated.

5. KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
Educated to ‘A’ Level/HNC level or above as a minimum (degree desirable).
Strong product knowledge of a range of metals, including their application is desirable.
Trading and knowledge of hedging of LME and/or LME intrinsically linked metals is desirable.
A solid commitment to evaluating how technology can be embraced to improve efficiency and provide the company with greater reach i.e. AI, digital marketing, metalshub style platforms.
Credible and confident communicator (written and verbal) at all levels.
Excellent negotiating skills.
Ability to influence at a senior level, both internally and externally.
Tenacious and results driven with sound business judgement.
Numerate with strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
Hands on approach with a ‘can-do’ attitude.
Good I.T. skills e.g. MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Outlook).
