At Tarmac Marine, we are proud to operate a fleet of four state-of-the-art vessels designed for aggregate dredging. As part of a comprehensive network of wharves and processing plants, we supply high-quality natural sand and gravel aggregates for major UK construction projects. Our dedicated marine team is based in Chichester and consists of experts in marine operations, ship engineering, and mineral resources.

We are looking for an experienced First Engineer Officer to join our team. Reporting to the Chief Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of all machinery on board, while maintaining high standards of safety and environmental protection. Your expertise will be essential in keeping our vessels ready for sea and in optimal condition.

This position allows you to enjoy a 3 weeks on, 3 weeks off rotation, meaning you can balance work and personal life effectively.

Please note that Tarmac is only supporting the recruitment process, and employees will be employed directly by TMG.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Familiarise yourself with the Chief Engineers duties and be prepared to assume command if required.
  • Maintain control of all under-deck spaces during your watch and ensure adherence to the Chief Engineers Standing Orders.
  • Ensure the safe and efficient operation of all machinery, prioritising safety, fire prevention, and environmental measures.
  • Participate as a key member of the vessels emergency response team in accordance with the Ship's Emergency Plan.
  • Collaborate with the Officer on Watch on the bridge regarding propulsion and steering machinery control.
  • Perform routine maintenance when necessary while prioritising supervision and control of the machinery.
  • Notify the bridge if leaving the engine room during your watch and agree on communication methods, especially on UMS vessels.
  • Advise the bridge Officer on Watch of any orders that may risk equipment damage and follow protocol in log entries.
  • Manage stock control and the economical use of stores, consumables, and hazardous substances for the engineering department.
  • Report significant incidents that occur during your watch to the Chief Engineer, including pollution incidents.
  • Ensure proper log entries are made accurately in compliance with regulations.
  • Maintain discipline and cleanliness in all under-deck spaces, ensuring they are kept in a seamanlike condition.
  • Operate the Permit to Work (PTW) and Task Risk Assessment (TRA) systems as per procedures.
  • Keep accurate records of any events and updated documentation relevant to vessel operations for handover.

Qualifications:

  • Valid certificate to serve as First Engineer Officer.
  • Fulfilment of all mandatory and company requirements related to training, certificates, and courses.
