Experienced Machinist
Location: Victory Road, Derby, DE24 8EL
Job Type: Full Time, Temporary position which could lead to permanent (3 months contract)
Hours: 38 hours per week, Mon-Fri. (can be flexible and may consider part time)
Salary: £17.00 - £20.00 per hour (dependant on experience and skills) plus Overtime

HYDRO is a global aerospace company with headquarters in Germany’s Black Forest. Our UK facility has relocated to larger premises due to our continued growth. We are close to the A50, M1 and M42 and within a short commute time from Derby, Nottingham and Leicester. We are co located on the Rolls-Royce campus on Victory Road, Derby, our largest UK customer.
Our UK business specialises in the production and delivery of aerospace tooling. Manufacturing and sourcing tools for engine and airframe build and repair, working with high profile OEMs to deliver quality products day in, day out.
This is an exciting time to join our business, having experienced significant growth within our manufacturing business, we will be expanding and developing our UK based capabilities further during 2025.
About the role:
We are looking for an experienced individual who will play an integral part in our planned expansion of the machine shop and business. This is a busy period for us and we have additional work load in the machine shop. This role will be primarily responsible for the creating high quality tools and details using manual lathes and milling machines. Also part of the role would be operation and programming of CNC machines As part of a small team this role will also be responsible for supporting the Engine Stand Refurbishment, Service teams and Assembly with manual operations. At times, this will be a customer facing role working both independently and as part of a team at our Derby site.
Responsibilities:

  • Operation of manual milling, turning and drilling machines to create tools and details from drawing.
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings, and use the information to create programmes to machine details.
  • Experience of programming, setting and operating CNC milling/ lathes highly advantageous, especially use of Siemens 828D and/ or one CNC.
  • Assist team leader in estimating manufacturing times and capabilities for quotation purposes.
  • Ensure that production quality and output levels are optimised at all times.
  • Re-enforce the department’s positive approach to knowledge sharing and supporting apprentices/trainees.
  • Support the Engine Stand Refurbishment and Service teams as required with duties including inspections, maintenance and repair.
  • Liaise with the Engineering department to ensure smooth running of the Machining function.
  • Carry out any other duties reasonable within capability including possible secondment to work in other areas on the shop floor.
  • Any other reasonable duties as assigned by the team lead/ management team.
    About you:
  • Proven experience of operating manual lathes essential
  • Ability to programme using Siemens control systems.
  • Experience using Heidenhain and/ or oneCNC would be advantageous.
  • A flexible approach to work and have a keen interest in developing new skills and supporting the wider business as required.
  • Organised, focused and able to adopt a high level of attention to detail within your work.
  • Must be self-motivated and guarantee safe working at all times.
  • A good communicator, prepared to work as part of a team.
  • Excellent attendance record and timekeeping.
    You may have experience of the following: Toolmaking, CNC Machine Operator, Machinist, Engineer, Siemens 828D, XYZ, Heidenhain, HAAS, Milling, CNC Turner, Tool Setter, Cutting, Manufacturing, Engineering, CNC Setter etc.
    You may have some or all of the above skills and experience, but full training will be provided to the successful candidate.
