Operating from a secure, integrated manufacturing facility in Newcastle upon Tyne, they manufacture components ranging from 3mm in diameter to 50 tonnes in weight. Their clients span various industries, including civil nuclear, defence, aerospace, marine, and oil & gas.

    Role Overview

    Reporting to the Commercial Manager, the Sales Estimator is responsible for sales proposals, technical customer relationship management, and driving profitable sales. This role involves analysing customer inquiries and technical drawings to prepare accurate cost estimates for manufacturing parts. You'll assess material costs, labour, machining time, tooling requirements, and overhead expenses to generate competitive quotes.

    Key Responsibilities

    Review requests for quotations and confirm that drawing requirements align with BEL’s capabilities and capacity.

    Analyse technical drawings and understand machining processes.

    Estimate costs, time, labour, and materials required for manufacturing.

    Prepare accurate quotations and estimates for customers.

    Engage and negotiate with material and treatment subcontractors for quotations.

    Critically review subcontract proposals to ensure compliance with RFQs.

    Develop sales proposals that meet required levels of margin.

    Support the Business Development Manager by attending customer meetings as the technical lead.

    Engage with customers to support design for manufacturing projects and discussions.

    Maintain and develop strong customer relationships.

    Identify opportunities for improvement to drive efficiencies and margin improvement.

    Respond to customer requests for quotations promptly.

    Mentor and train team members when required.

    Domestic and international travel as required.

    Ensure compliance with BEL’s health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.

    Adhere to local health, safety, and environmental requirements when traveling or visiting other premises.

    Person Specification
    Experience

  • Time-served machinist with strong knowledge of machining operations and processes.

  • Significant experience and understanding of the manufacturing industry within a build-to-print precision machining business.

  • Experience manufacturing components for industries such as Defence, Nuclear, and Aerospace.

  • Experience working with MRP/ERP systems.

    Competencies

  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and 3D models.

  • Strong numerical and analytical skills.

  • Strong communication skills for dealing with customers and internal stakeholders.

  • Ability to build, develop, and manage relationships.

    Qualifications

  • A relevant qualification in Mechanical Engineering (HNC or equivalent).

    Other Requirements

  • Subject to Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) check and Security Clearance (SC)
