Job Description

What will you be doing? 

As an embedded software engineer,you will join our team in Birmingham to support our activities within the aerospace sector. You’ll work on innovativeSystem-on-Chip (SoC) solutions,low-level software integration, andreal-time operating systems (RTOS), helping to shape the future of embedded technology. This is a unique opportunity to join a dynamic consultancy and collaborate on high-impact projects with industry leaders.

Your main responsibilities will be: 

  • Design and developlow-level embedded softwareforSystem-on-Chip (SoC)platforms, integrating software with complex hardware architectures.
  • Implementembedded coding in C and C++, ensuring efficient real-time processing and performance optimisation.
  • Developsoftware using platform IDEs for FPGAs, with a preference forXilinx Vivado & SDK/Vitis.
  • Work onlow-level hardware device driversand optimisecommunication interfaces (UART, Ethernet)to ensure seamless data exchange.
  • Develop and maintaingraphical user interfaces (GUI)for embedded applications.
  • Contribute tosoftware architecture design, focusing on maintainability and modular separation into OS and application layers.

Qualifications

Experience, skills and qualifications required: 

  • 1-4 years of experienceinembedded software development.
  • Ideally will have worked in the Aerospace or Defence sector
  • Strong proficiency inC and C++forembedded systems.
  • Experience withARM CPU architecturesandreal-time operating systems (FreeRTOS)
  • Knowledge ofhardware-software integration, including working withlow-level device drivers.
  • Hands-on experience withXilinx Vivado, SDK/Vitis, and FPGA programming.
  • Familiarity withcommunication stacksandprotocols such as UART and Ethernet.
