Job Advert: Electronic Design Engineer

Location: Chelmsford (Full Time On-Site)

Position Overview: As an Electronic Design Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in designing compact, high-reliability high-voltage systems (5-10kV) for airborne military applications. You will be responsible for specifying design requirements, ensuring compliance with system specifications, and producing essential technical documentation. Your work will focus on creating ultra-small volume, versatile, and highly reliable designs, all while adhering to strict high-voltage safety standards.

Key Responsibilities: - Design circuits and sub-systems to meet customer needs, ensuring reliability and manufacturability within cost targets. - Provide prompt and technically sound resolutions to issues arising during development, production, and service. - Verify circuit and system designs through simulations, practical testing, and environmental assessments. - Ensure design compliance with regulatory, legislative, environmental, and safety standards. - Manage changes to product build standards post-launch driven by continuous improvement, obsolescence, or regulatory changes. - Identify and assess IPR/patent issues and opportunities, driving claims as necessary. - Continuously review market trends and technological advancements to identify potential new products or upgrades, collaborating with leadership for future development.

Key Skills and Experience: - Expert knowledge in power electronic systems design, including: - Switch Mode PSU design - PCB Design - High frequency digital and analogue circuits in MILSPEC applications - High frequency magnetic components (transformers) - High Voltage and high power experience (3 to 10kV, 500W to 2kW) - Experience in designing for Reliability (MTBF) in electronic systems. - Understanding of electronics encapsulation in demanding environments. - Proficient in analyzing design failure mechanisms using DfMEA/FMECA. - Strong grasp of electrical safety demands and safe working practices. - Familiarity with PCB layout tools and manufacturing techniques, including schematic capture and Mathcad.

Qualifications: - Degree in Electronic Engineering or equivalent practical experience in relevant product technology is essential. - Further education qualifications in electronics or related fields.

Security Clearance: - UK National Security Clearance (SC) is essential; DV clearance is advantageous.
