Electronic Engineer (Space / Defence) Hertfordshire

Electronic Technician (Aerospace)

This role involves the design and production of electric motors and generators, primarily for the aerospace, defence, and oil and gas industries. As part of a multidisciplinary team, you will collaborate with project managers, mechanical and electrical engineers, aerodynamicists, and manufacturing engineers to deliver cutting-edge products and provide sustaining engineering support.

Key Responsibilities:

Designing electro-magnetic devices such as BLDC, Synchronous PM, and Induction motors & generators
Conducting concept analysis and design trade-offs across various motor technologies
Performing electro-magnetic FE analysis and magnetic circuit calculations using software tools like MotorCAD and Ansys Maxwell
Carrying out system performance simulation and impact analysis on motor design and requirements
Defining acceptance and qualification requirements and testing new and existing wound product devices
Supporting sales visits and discussions with customers
Addressing production issues related to electro-magnetic products
Producing high-standard engineering reports, specifications, compliance statements, and procedures
Reviewing engineering documents such as drawings, specifications, reports, and procedures
Collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary and inter-departmental teams
Supporting the New Product Introduction process
Contributing to the development of company procedures to maximise efficiency while meeting customer requirements
Preparing technical proposals, costings, and associated documentation to support business development
Providing technical support to sales teams to secure new business

Other Responsibilities/Non-essential Functions:

Undertaking training as identified by the role manager
Addressing all reasonable requests made by the role manager/acting manager or directors
Providing support outside the normal tasks of the job to ensure customer satisfaction during reduced department staff attendance
Occasionally taking on ad hoc duties including training, department-associated tasks, and brief secondments to other departments

Job Requirements:

Experience with 2D / 3D FEA packages such as MotorCAD and Ansys
Masters or PhD in Electrical Engineering with a specialisation in e-machine design
Strong simulation and analytical skills
Proficiency in data analysis and efficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Ability to interpret and write codes using MATLAB, Python, Octave, etc.
Capability to quickly pick up new tasks, understand issues, find solutions, and implement changes
Ability to work under pressure while managing conflicting demands against tight deadlines
A self-starter with energy and enthusiasm who thrives in a small close-knit team
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
