Senior Control System Engineer

As a Control Systems Engineer at Booth Welsh, you will work closely with our strategic clients, providing control systems engineering support across the full project lifecycle. From initial concept and design through to testing and commissioning, you will deliver high-quality control system solutions across a range of regulated and industrial environments.

You will operate independently or as part of a multidisciplinary project team, taking ownership of control system projects and contributing to the successful delivery of complex engineering solutions.

About the Role

Key Responsibilities

Provide control systems engineering support throughout the full project lifecycle
Develop and approve control system design, quality, and test documentation
Configure, test, and commission control systems including PLC, SCADA, and DCS platforms
Deliver control system projects from configuration and factory testing through to site commissioning
Work directly with strategic clients across multiple process industries
Take a lead role on control system projects, coordinating technical delivery
Support and mentor less experienced engineers in a collaborative, “social talent” environment
Plan, organise, and manage your own workload to meet project milestones and deadlines
Ensure solutions align with relevant safety, quality, and regulatory standards

Your Experience

Essential Skills & Experience

Minimum 5 years’ experience in control systems engineering
Proven experience preparing and approving control system design, quality, and test documentation
Strong hands-on experience configuring control systems (PLC, SCADA, DCS)
Experience with Siemens, Rockwell, and/or Emerson systems preferred (all relevant platforms considered)
Solid understanding of control system hardware, installation practices, and control panel design
Ability to deliver projects through configuration, testing, and commissioning phases
Strong team-working skills with the confidence to lead technical delivery when required
Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities

Desirable Knowledge

Experience within Life Sciences, Chemical Sciences, and/or Oil & Gas sectors
Knowledge of Functional Safety and SIL systems
Understanding of Hazardous Area design principles

Qualifications

Degree-qualified in a relevant engineering discipline
Working towards Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with the IET, or already chartered
