RINA Aerospace & Defence (ASD UK) Consulting is offering an opportunity for a high calibre and talented Aviation Systems Consultant to join our growing Defence Air Safety Assurance team. This specialist team delivers Airworthiness activities on behalf of national and overseas clients.

The Systems Assurance team is experiencing a real breadth and variety of project work on some of the most technically advanced platforms in UK Defence, including unmanned air systems, Apache, Wildcat, Chinook and Typhoon, to name a few. The successful candidate support and deliver Systems Engineering and Assurance projects, for technically interlinked assets and platforms. You will also consult with and support clients in designing risk management frameworks.

RINA is a smart working consultancy, providing a hybrid working at home, in the office (Chippenham, Leatherhead or Lincoln) and on client sites, predominantly in the UK.

The Role

The Aviation Systems Consultant requires a Systems Engineering background, with particular experience of software engineering, gained from working with Defence contractors or the MOD. The successful applicant can expect to be challenged intellectually and professionally, work across a wide variety of projects.

Responsibilities will include:

Support the development of systems engineering arguments, which will include authoring, updating, reviewing and independent auditing of Safety Cases, focused on the systems risks. Engage with client personnel at all levels to identify faults on platforms such as remote pilot air systems. Manage Systems Assurance projects through the full cycle, delivering to time, budget and client satisfaction. Conduct comprehensive Risk Management assessments and design risk frameworks. Ensure assets are secure by design and make information available in accordance with JSP 940. Provide the necessary support to the Bid Management team; where responsibilities may include supporting the preparation of commercial and technical proposals focussed on Cyber Security.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

Candidates must have some demonstrable experience (2 years +) of Defence programmes, within the air and airworthiness domains. At least 2 years systems engineering and risk management experience on air platforms. Ideally some familiarity of Defence Standards, in particular Def Stans 00-970, 055, 056 and/or 326A series. Ideally an understanding of JSP 940 or 440, and the Military Aviation Authority’s (MAA) Military Air-System Certification Process (MACP). A graduate qualification is preferred, e.g.: Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Mathematics or Engineering. Already hold UK Security Clearance, or you must be a British citizen willing and eligible to undertake the UK Security vetting process. You can either have worked for a Defence contractor, consultancy or come straight from the military.
