Computer Science Graduate (AI & Digital Innovation)
We’re scaling up our digital capability team to drive TMS Maritime’s next generation of smart marine, civil and infrastructure solutions, and we’re looking for an early-career technologist to pioneer AI, data and automation in a high-impact environment. Enjoy a competitive graduate salary of up to £35,000, hybrid working, and exposure to real projects across marine engineering, diving, coastal infrastructure and more. This role is initially either a 12 month placement for someone in their final year of study, or a 2 year role with the potential to lead to a permanent position for a recent graduate.

About Us

TMS Maritime is a UK leader in marine and civil engineering - delivering seawalls, quayside piling, dredging and turnkey infrastructure solutions across tidal, coastal and inland waterways. With over 31 years of experience, we pride ourselves on innovation, safety and delivering on complex, large-scale projects across the UK and Europe.

In 2025, we joined the Ancora Group through significant investment, giving us expanded capability and opportunity for digital growth.

At TMS you will be part of a team delivering future-ready infrastructure, embracing tech within traditionally physical engineering environments. Whether it's modelling, optimisation, data analytics, predictive systems or AI tooling, your work will make a tangible difference to projects that protect communities, coastlines and waterways.

The Role

As our Computer Science Graduate (AI & Digital Innovation), you’ll:

Support the design, development and deployment of AI, machine-learning, data analytics and digital optimisation tools that enhance project planning, asset monitoring and marine / civil operations

Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, site operations, diving, survey and project teams to understand domain problems and build tech solutions

Process, cleanse and analyse field data (e.g. sensor, geodata, drone imagery, underwater survey data) and produce actionable insights

Prototype models and algorithmic solutions (e.g. predictive maintenance, anomaly detection, scheduling optimisation)

Work with external partners, GIS / remote sensing, visualization and tooling frameworks

Assist in digital transformation initiatives — documenting code, developing dashboards and enabling wider adoption of tech tools across the business

Validate solutions through pilot projects and field trials, iterating based on feedback

⏱ Hours: Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours (core hours)
📍 Location: Dawlish, Devon (hybrid + site visits)

What We’re Looking For:

You’ll have:

A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, AI or equivalent (or imminent graduation)

Solid programming skills (e.g. Python, R, Java, C++ or other modern language)

Familiarity (or strong interest) in machine learning, data analytics, modelling, algorithms, or statistical methods

Demonstrable experience via projects, coursework or side projects in data science, ML, optimisation or algorithmic work

Strong problem-solving mindset, ability to translate complex domain challenges into technical solutions

Excellent communication skills - able to present technical ideas to non-technical colleagues

A collaborative mindset, with willingness to learn domain specifics and adapt

Eligible to work in the UK

Desirable:

Experience with GIS, geospatial data, remote sensing, drone / sensor data, or underwater / marine datasets

Exposure to cloud platforms, visualization tools or front-end dashboards

What You’ll Get in Return:

Competitive graduate salary of up to £35,000 per annum

Clear development pathway into digital, engineering or leadership roles

Mentorship from experienced engineers and domain specialists

Hybrid working flexibility (office + remote)

Exposure to high-profile infrastructure / marine projects nationwide

Travel to interesting sites and field deployments

Strong learning culture: budget for training, conferences, certifications

Contribution to impactful projects that protect coastlines & communities

Membership of Ancora Group’s broader network & resources

Standard benefits: pension, holiday allowance, health / wellbeing support

At TMS we are an inclusive, equal opportunities employer - we celebrate diversity and aim for fairness in recruitment, development and reward.

Space Industry Recruitment Trends 2025 (UK): What Job Seekers Need To Know About Today’s Hiring Process

Summary: UK space‑sector hiring has shifted from pedigree‑first screening to capability‑driven evaluation across the full stack—spacecraft systems, payload/RF, flight software, GNC/ADCS, propulsion, structures/thermal, AIT (assembly–integration–test), mission/ground operations, reliability/radiation, and compliance (ECSS, export control). Employers want proof you can build, test, operate and scale space systems safely and economically. This guide explains what’s changed, what to expect in interviews & how to prepare—especially for satellite/spacecraft engineers, payload & RF/MM‑wave, flight & ground software, GNC/ADCS, power/thermal, AIT/test, mission ops, data/EO, and space product/TPM roles. Who this is for: Systems engineers, payload/RF engineers, flight software & FDIR, GNC/ADCS, power/thermal/structures, propulsion, AIT/test, reliability/radiation, QA/compliance, ground segment/cloud, mission operations, EO/data processing, and product/programme managers targeting roles in the UK space ecosystem.

Why Space Careers in the UK Are Becoming More Multidisciplinary

The UK’s space sector is growing fast — from satellite systems and Earth observation to satellite communications, space robotics, propulsion, space data analytics, and mission operations. But the nature of space work is changing. Projects involving satellites, launch systems, space robotics and ground infrastructure are now embedded in regulation, public perception, human interaction and cross-disciplinary design. Space careers in the UK used to be dominated by engineers, astrophysicists, systems analysts and telemetry experts. Today, they increasingly demand fluency not only in aerospace, software, electronics & data, but also in law, ethics, psychology, linguistics & design. After all, space systems operate under treaties, privacy constraints, public scrutiny, international collaborations and human interfaces. In this article, we explore why space careers in the UK are becoming more multidisciplinary, how those allied fields intersect with space work, and what job-seekers & employers must do to thrive in this evolving cosmos.

UK Space Team Structures Explained: Who Does What in a Modern Space Department

The UK space sector is rapidly expanding. With growth in satellite design, Earth observation, communications, launch systems, space science, downstream applications, and regulatory and operational services, there’s rising demand for skilled professionals across many disciplines. Building a high-impact space organisation requires well-defined team structures, clear roles, strong collaboration, and alignment across engineering, science, operations, regulation, and commercial functions. If you are applying for roles via UKSpaceJobs.co.uk or hiring into your company, this guide will help you understand the principal roles you’ll find in a space team, how they interact during mission lifecycles, what skills UK employers expect, salary norms, common challenges, and best practice for structuring space teams that succeed.
