Our prestige engineering client is currently recruiting for the following role:

Chassis Systems Engineer - Vehicle Motion Controls - £44/hr (Inside IR35) - Warwickshire/Hybrid - 6 Months (potential to roll)

Role Summary:
As a Systems Engineer Chassis Motion Control, you will be responsible for the design, development, and validation of vehicle motion control systems such as electronic stability control (ESC), brake control, active suspension, and steering systems. This role involves system architecture, requirements engineering, functional safety compliance. The successful candidate will support the delivery of the Driver Modes System onto current and future vehicle platforms, from initial Definition through Model Delivery, Validation and Sign-Off for a Premium Midlands based OEM.

Area of responsibility:

  • Define system architecture for chassis motion control systems (braking, steering, suspension).
  • Develop functional and non-functional requirements based on vehicle dynamics targets and customer/OEM specifications.
  • Create system-level models (e.g., using MATLAB/Simulink) to simulate and validate control strategies.
  • Translate stakeholder and OEM requirements into system specifications.
  • Ensure traceability and consistency across all levels (requirements, design, verification).
  • Collaborate with software and hardware teams to define interfaces and integration requirements.
  • Work in accordance with ISO 26262 to define safety goals, perform hazard analysis and risk assessment (HARA), and support safety case development.
  • Define system validation plans including test scenarios for vehicle dynamics, fail-safe behaviours, and edge cases

    Knowledge / Experience (Essential):
  • Automotive or Electrical Engineering Degree with a minimum of 6 years Industry Experience (Automotive preferred)
  • Experience in Automotive Chassis / Motion Systems and associated features, although strong candidates with relevant system experience from other industries such as aerospace will also be considered.
  • Some experience of delivering complex mechatronic systems from concept to production.
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering complex projects to quality, cost and time.
  • You will have a strong background in systems engineering and requirement management, along with change management tools and processes, version control, control strategy documentation.
  • You will have demonstrable experience in Jira toolsets, including but not limited to Confluence and Lucid.
  • Experience in delivery of safety critical active control systems and associated software to ISO26262 standards.
  • Strong knowledge of control systems, vehicle dynamics, and embedded systems.
  • Proficiency in tools like MATLAB/Simulink, INCA, CANape, CANalyzer, DOORS, or Polarion.
  • Experience with ECU development, chassis sensors, and actuators.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with strong influencing and engagement skills.
  • Proficiency in issue resolution management, including both methodology and application e.g. 8D, Fishbone.
  • Full UK driving license

    Knowledge / Experience (Desirable):
  • Knowledge of vehicle dynamics particularly in the active systems domain.
  • Experience delivering complex integrated control systems for a large-scale OEM.
  • Experience in MBSE methods and toolsets (MSOSA or similar)
  • Hands on vehicle testing in the active systems domain including subjective and objective test methods.
  • Understanding of automotive networking, diagnostics and fault handling techniques, and related system development tools (CANalyzer, ASL, CANape, etc.)
  • Previous experience with client and their technology/product delivery processes would be an advantage.
  • Recognised industry driving qualifications e.g. JLR's Class 3 / 4PG etc.

    Additional Information:
    This role is on a contract basis and is Inside IR35.
