Job Title: Aerothermal Engineer
Location: Remote, with regular but infrequent in-person meetings.
About HybridAero: HybridAero is an early-stage start-up revolutionizing General Aviation by developing software that optimizes the configuration design of hybrid-electric aircraft. Our mission is to realise the potential of electric propulsion for regional aircraft, enabling a step change in performance, sustainability and cost of regional aviation.
Aerothermal Engineer - Job Description: We seek a highly motivated Aerothermal Engineer to join our dynamic team and play a crucial role in advancing the future of sustainable aviation. This role involves developing and enhancing our proprietary software, which is designed to identify the most effective configurations for hybrid-electric propulsion systems in aircraft through a combination of coding, simulation and hands-on testing. The ideal candidate will possess a robust aerothermal background, especially aviation-related, and demonstrate strong proficiency in an object-oriented programming language - preferably Python.
Aerothermal Engineer - Responsibilities:

  • Design, simulate, and implement software solutions that calculate optimal performance layouts for hybrid-electric propulsion systems for aircraft.
  • Develop CFD studies and experimental tests to validate aerodynamic models, generating CAD designs to efficiently analyse and solve complex aerodynamic problems.
  • Analyse and disseminate results from a wide variety of sources including empirical data, CFD, Wind Tunnel and Flight Tests.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure cohesive and innovative product development.
  • Continually strive to improve both our aerothermal and company processes.
  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies in aviation to drive continuous improvement in our software tools.
    Aerothermal Engineer - Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience in aerothermal engineering, with a strong preference for candidates with an appreciation of overall aircraft design and the potential of hybrid-electric propulsion.
  • Familiarity with CAD and CFD software, preferably Siemens NX and STAR-CCM+.
  • Strong proficiency in Python or equivalent, with a keen desire to apply this to software development for aerospace applications.
  • Willingness to develop and lead complex engineering projects.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities, capable of collaborating effectively with diverse teams.
  • Highly motivated and self-directed, with a preference for hybrid or fully remote working.
Aerothermal Engineer - What We Offer:
  • Opportunities for professional development, career growth, and the chance to work on groundbreaking projects in sustainable aviation.
  • A creative and collaborative workplace culture that values innovation.
  • Flexibility in work hours and location, including remote work options.
  • We work a 9 day fortnight, with every second Friday off.
  • The team currently meet up in Cambridge for a few days every 6 weeks, with more ad-hoc meetings in London once per week/fortnight.
  • A competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package including, but not limited to 25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays) and a company pension scheme with contributions matched up to 4% in your first year, increasing 1% annually up to 10% matched contributions.
Application Process: Interested candidates should submit a resume and a cover letter detailing their experience, skills, and why they believe they are a good fit for this role at HybridAero

How to Find Hidden Space Jobs in the UK Using Professional Bodies like the RAeS, UKSpace & More

The UK space sector is enjoying rapid growth—driven by satellite constellations, launch services, Earth observation, space science, and defence applications. But while demand for engineers, scientists, mission designers, and space analysts is high, many of the most compelling roles are never advertised publicly. Instead, these opportunities are often filled through professional networks, working groups, innovation clusters, and academic-industry partnerships. This guide will show you how to access hidden UK space jobs by engaging with bodies like the Royal Aeronautical Society (RAeS), UKSpace, British Interplanetary Society (BIS), and regional space clusters. By leveraging membership directories, special-interest groups (SIGs), CPD events, and funded projects, you can position yourself to be first in line—even before roles are posted.

How to Get a Better Space Sector Job After a Lay-Off or Redundancy

Being made redundant from a role in the UK space sector can be disheartening. Whether your work was tied to satellite design, launch services, ground systems, mission operations, or Earth observation analytics, the experience and specialist knowledge you've gained is still highly valuable. The UK government’s Space Strategy, increased commercial investment, and new launch initiatives across Cornwall, Scotland, and Wales continue to drive opportunities in upstream and downstream space technologies. This guide will help you relaunch your career in the UK space sector after redundancy.

UK Space Jobs Salary Calculator 2025: Work Out Your Market Value in Seconds

Why last year’s pay survey already misfires for UK space talent Ask a Satellite Systems Engineer wrestling with RF budgets, a Mission Operations Analyst shepherding cubesats at 04:00 UTC, or a Launch Vehicle Propulsion Engineer machining ablative liners in Cornwall: “Am I earning what I deserve?” The honest answer drifts faster than orbital debris. Since early 2024 the UK Space Agency released £1.6 billion of National Space Strategy funding, SaxaVord’s spaceport edged toward its first vertical launch licence, and Harwell Campus welcomed three VC‑fuelled in‑orbit‑servicing start‑ups. Each headline ratcheted hiring demand—and salaries. A salary guide printed in 2024 is already as dated as a Block II GPS ephemeris: no mention of the Scottish micro‑launcher premium, the AI‑earth‑observation bubble, or the sudden scarcity of flight‑dynamics controllers who can wrangle multi‑constellation mega‑swarms. To replace guesswork with data, UKSpaceJobs.co.uk distilled a clear, three‑factor formula. Feed in your discipline, UK region & seniority; you’ll get a realistic 2025 baseline—no stale averages, no vague “competitive” claims. This article unpacks the formula, explores the forces inflating space salaries, and sets out concrete steps to boost your value within ninety days.
