Are you ready to shape a truly bespoke educational experience for pupils with autism? We are seeking a passionate and strategic Class Teacher to lead The Orchard — a brand-new specialist provision that launched in September 2025 at Clay Hill School.

Clay Hill School is a specialist independent school for pupils with Autism set within the beautiful and tranquil surroundings of the New Forest. Pupils are taught in small classes, with a strong focus on personalised learning, wellbeing and progress. Every pupil is seen as an individual, and their education is shaped around their unique strengths, needs and aspirations.

The Orchard is a new and distinctive provision within the school, designed to meet the needs of up to six pupils who benefit from a quieter, lower-stimulation environment than the main site classrooms. There is a broad spread of abilities, interests and learning styles, and the provision is designed to meet each pupil where they are.

Pupils spend part of their week in lessons on the main school site and the rest in tailored one-to-one sessions within their own classrooms. When in their classrooms, pupils are accompanied by a dedicated one-to-one Learning Support Assistant. A dedicated base classroom provides a space for tutor time and shared learning opportunities. Weekly enrichment activities are also planned to reflect pupils’ needs and interests, helping them build confidence, curiosity and connection beyond the classroom.

This provision is rooted in our core school values of ambition, support, passion, independence, resilience and empathy.

As the lead teacher in The Orchard, you will:

Coordinate and deliver bespoke learning plans for each pupil
Lead a team of committed LSAs to ensure high-quality one-to-one provision
Organise resources and oversee assessment and progress tracking
Write and maintain Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
Complete annual reviews and liaise weekly with parents/carers
Deliver Thrive activities as part of our commitment to supporting emotional wellbeing and development
Work closely with the SENDCo and wider leadership team
Contribute to a culture of professional growth and shared practice

While your primary focus will be leading The Orchard, you may also have a small teaching responsibility in other classes across the school, depending on need. The Orchard currently supports secondary-aged pupils, though in future it may include primary-aged learners. You will have autonomy over your timetable, enabling you to plan when to teach and support pupils, monitor progress and ensure engagement in a way that best meets their individual needs.

We Offer:

A clear and collaborative line management structure
Strong links with our SENDCo and wider SEN team
Opportunities for professional development and career progression
A warm, committed staff team who value creativity and care
Weekly enrichment activities tailored to pupil needs
A stunning natural setting that enhances wellbeing and learning

We welcome applications from teachers with or without SEN experience, and from both primary and secondary backgrounds. What matters most is your passion for personalised learning and inclusive education.

This is an exciting opportunity to teach in a different way — to lead, innovate, and help shape the educational journey of our wonderful pupils in a brand-new provision.

Benefits:

Exclusive access to reward and discount scheme
Blue Light discount card
Comprehensive induction
Commitment to your ongoing training and career progression
Paid for enhanced PVG/DBS
SEN allowance
Teacher's pension
Wellbeing support
Cycle to work scheme and more!

Who this is for: Systems engineers, payload/RF engineers, flight software & FDIR, GNC/ADCS, power/thermal/structures, propulsion, AIT/test, reliability/radiation, QA/compliance, ground segment/cloud, mission operations, EO/data processing, and product/programme managers targeting roles in the UK space ecosystem.

Why Space Careers in the UK Are Becoming More Multidisciplinary

The UK’s space sector is growing fast — from satellite systems and Earth observation to satellite communications, space robotics, propulsion, space data analytics, and mission operations. But the nature of space work is changing. Projects involving satellites, launch systems, space robotics and ground infrastructure are now embedded in regulation, public perception, human interaction and cross-disciplinary design. Space careers in the UK used to be dominated by engineers, astrophysicists, systems analysts and telemetry experts. Today, they increasingly demand fluency not only in aerospace, software, electronics & data, but also in law, ethics, psychology, linguistics & design. After all, space systems operate under treaties, privacy constraints, public scrutiny, international collaborations and human interfaces. In this article, we explore why space careers in the UK are becoming more multidisciplinary, how those allied fields intersect with space work, and what job-seekers & employers must do to thrive in this evolving cosmos.

UK Space Team Structures Explained: Who Does What in a Modern Space Department

The UK space sector is rapidly expanding. With growth in satellite design, Earth observation, communications, launch systems, space science, downstream applications, and regulatory and operational services, there’s rising demand for skilled professionals across many disciplines. Building a high-impact space organisation requires well-defined team structures, clear roles, strong collaboration, and alignment across engineering, science, operations, regulation, and commercial functions. If you are applying for roles via UKSpaceJobs.co.uk or hiring into your company, this guide will help you understand the principal roles you’ll find in a space team, how they interact during mission lifecycles, what skills UK employers expect, salary norms, common challenges, and best practice for structuring space teams that succeed.
