We are currently seeking a Senior Test Equipment Engineer (predominantly Hardware) with extensive Motor Controller and Motor Test experience to join our team within Collins Aerospace Electronic Controls and Motor Systems, Solihull.

Job Description

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for Senior Test Equipment Engineer to join our Engineering team. The Senior Test Equipment Engineer will play a crucial role in the design and documentation of mainly LabVIEW and TestStand-based automated test equipment for aerospace products and systems across various project teams.

The primary objective is to ensure that the test equipment design meets all Product and Qualification testing and test coverage requirements and integrates seamlessly with production test equipment capabilities and product test needs. This role involves specifying test and interface requirements, implementing test scripts, and participating in strategic planning for the company's future test equipment road map.

The senior test engineer will help generate, maintain and ensure that the test equipment, software, NI Lab View code and test scripts meet the test requirements of the project, unit specification

The Senior Test Equipment Engineer is expected to participate in company strategic planning for the future test equipment road map. Additionally, the Senior Test Equipment Engineer will mentor and train junior engineers, ensuring high standards of hardware, software and script maintenance.

Key Responsibilities

Design and Commission Test EquipmentDesign, build and commission test equipment, both hardware and software, for multiple aerospace projects.Develop NI LabVIEW code to control modular Automated Test Equipment (ATE).Test Scripts and SpecificationsDevelop test scripts for development and production testing, and ATE.Create test specifications and documentation for various development projects.Procurement and Interface DesignProcure test equipment to meet development engineering requirements.Design, procure, and commission test interface equipment.Collaboration and EvolutionWork with the production test team to ensure that development test equipment evolves into production test equipment.Collaborate with engineering development teams to ensure appropriate test coverage.Mentorship and TrainingMentor and develop junior test team members.Supplementary Test CircuitsDesign and build supplementary test circuits for control, protection, and Built-In Test (BIT) functions.Compliance and Quality AssuranceEnsure test equipment and methods comply with necessary regulations and performance standards.Establish validation standards and develop testing protocols.Document test results and maintain records for analysis.Strategic PlanningParticipate in strategic planning for future test equipment roadmaps.Influence and communicate with internal and external stakeholders regarding policies, practices, and procedures.Technical PublicationsCreate and distribute technical publications, including writing, rewriting, and editing technical documents.Acquire subject knowledge through interviews, performance observations, and reviewing technical specifications and illustrations.Oversee the preparation of illustrative materials and conduct quality reviews.

Essential Skills and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) subject and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field with a minimum of 3 years’ experience or qualified to minimum HNC Electronics or equivalent and/or formal apprenticeship with relevant test engineering experience within the manufacturing industry. Advanced knowledge and experience with National Instruments (NI) LabVIEW. Senior-level expertise in electronic circuit design, including analog and digital electronics. Proficiency in a modern high-level programming language and understanding of various programming languages' capabilities and limitations. CAD skills and schematic capture. Mechanical drawing capabilities. Proactive, high-energy, and positive attitude. Ability to work autonomously with limited oversight. Strong problem-solving skills, able to tackle difficult and complex issues. Effective communicator with internal and external stakeholders. Experience mentoring and reviewing the work of lower-level professionals. Practical knowledge of project management and ability to manage small projects or processes. Working knowledge of Windows Good communication and IT skills
