Senior Mechanical Engineer

Principal Tasks and Responsibilities

Undertake technical delivery of one or more design packages as directed by the Engineering Lead, managing designer performance, and making appropriate technical management responses. Provide Subject Matter Expert advice as per discipline. Ensure that the design documentation covers the scope of operations required by the Project Manager and is produced to agreed standards, schedule, and budget. Plan for effective project implementation, identifying key factors and contributing to the project's technical planning process when required. Ensuring effective Quality Management Arrangements, operate and deliver through compliance with Business Management System and Technical Manual. Ensure that the processes and activities being managed are appropriately documented with appropriate records maintained and configuration and quality controls applied. Ensure that staff and contractors are familiar with the hazards and risks associated with the work undertaken by the delegated engineering team through effective management and communication of the Risk Assessment.

Qualifications and Experience Requirements

Qualification Requirements

Level 6 STEM qualification, OR Level 5 STEM qualification with substantial relevant experience. Chartered Engineer, registered with Engineering Council or working towards Chartered status. Sound understanding of engineering design and safety practice as relevant to discipline, post, and project requirements. Experience in producing and checking a wide range of engineering reports and supporting more junior engineers in these activities. Able to suggest and guide the authoring of appropriate hand calculations to verify that concepts / proposals meet design requirements. Experience of the design support to construction, operation, refit/repair of conventional and nuclear submarines and/or facilities.
OR
Experience of the design and support of Hydrocarbon/Chemical process/plant systems. Experience of substantiation of process equipment for justification of Safety Functions (Nuclear preferred). Able to produce and check Process Sequence / P&ID drawings. Able to produce and check design drawings to recognised standards, i.e. BS8888. Working knowledge of relevant engineering office computer applications
