The Company recently reached their seed funding and this is now a crucial & exciting time for the business as we look to appoint a Marine Systems Engineer.

This role is highly autonomous and will see you influence and pioneer a new class of renewable energy to help combat climate change.


The Role

This role will work as part of the Vessel Design team, leading the system integration aspects of the overall MVY energy yacht design. Working towards a groundbreaking first of its type deployment. Accountable for the end-to-end design of the core ship systems, including; electrical, hydraulic, and plant interface systems, on board the DRIFT Ship. This is a critical part of ‘the design loop' process and fundamental in the delivery of our business success.


Your Task

3-Month Deliverables:

Document and continually update the ship systems design of the MVY energy yacht, ensuring alignment with project milestones.

Define integration plans for hydraulic, electrical, hydrogen system interfaces and other essential ship systems within the design program.

Review and define compliance plan with safety standards for ship systems design, addressing any immediate concerns especially with respect to classification rules.


6-Month Deliverables:

Document and update load charts across the vessel design to reflect the latest design stage developments and requirements.

Design and propose innovative solutions to technical engineering challenges encountered during the design process.

Foster strong working relationships with key suppliers, ensuring service delivery standards are maintained and any issues are promptly addressed.


12-Month Deliverables:

Lead the completion of ship systems design, to ensure all components can be manufactured and installed to meet cost-effectiveness criteria.

Evaluate and implement eco-friendly options throughout the design and build stages, contributing to the environmental sustainability goals of the project.

Continuously monitor for risks and promptly escalate any identified issues to the Head of Vessel Design, accompanied by recommended solutions to mitigate them.


*Please note, this is not a fixed term contract, this is a full-time, long-term role.

Essential skills & experience:

Relevant Degree in Marine Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Naval architecture.

3-5 years relevant experience.

Proven experience in ship systems design including producing P&ID’s, BOM’s, MEL’s .

Demonstrable knowledge of ship safety standards, specifically class approval.


Desirable Skills & Experience:

Experience working in a new build ship design team

Experience with ship electrical & power systems

Experience working to IMDG code

Understanding of ship operations and practicalities of installation, and maintenance of on board systems

Experience within the Maritime and Energy sectors

Knowledge of marine design rules keeping up to date on novel technologies

Proficient in AutoCAD, solidworks, Rhino 3D or similar

Genuine interest in new technologies and a passion for the green economy and the opportunity of sustainable technology for the marine sector.

This role will be based in the Bath / Bristol area and office based with the option to negotiate flexible working.
