Marshall Canada requires a Sr. Engineering Manager, Systems Engineering in Ottawa, ON to join our team. Reporting to the Head of Engineering Functions, the Senior Engineering Manager for the Systems Engineering Team is a pivotal leadership role within our organization, spearheading effective systems engineering practices across the business, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and scalability of our products and solutions.
Your responsibilities in the role:
Champion Effective Systems Engineering Practices: Lead efforts to establish and promote best-in-class systems engineering practices throughout the organization. Advocate for the adoption of industry standards, methodologies, and tools to enhance efficiency and quality across all engineering projects. Team Leadership: Provide visionary leadership to the Systems Engineering Team, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment. Set clear objectives, mentor team members, and facilitate professional development opportunities. Strategic Capability Planning: Develop and implement strategic plans to embed effective systems engineering practices into the fabric of our organization. Drive initiatives for continuous improvement, leveraging systems thinking to optimize processes and workflows. Technical Guidance: Offer expert technical guidance to resolve complex engineering challenges, emphasizing the importance of systems thinking in problem-solving. Collaborate with cross-functional teams within a strong matrix organization to integrate systems engineering solutions seamlessly across various projects. Resource Management: Allocate resources effectively to best enable team productivity and project outcomes. Collaborate with HR for recruitment, onboarding, and performance management of engineering staff with a focus on nurturing systems engineering talent. Stakeholder Communication: Act as a liaison between the Systems Engineering Team and key stakeholders, articulating the value proposition of effective systems engineering practices. Quality Assurance: Establish Systems Engineering process and Key Performance Indicators (KPI) to ensure their effectiveness, suitability and value across the business. Budget Oversight: Manage departmental budgets and expenditures with a strategic focus on advancing systems engineering capabilities. Identify cost-saving opportunities and optimize resource allocation to maximize Return On Investment (ROI), emphasizing the long-term value of investing in robust systems engineering practices. Risk Management: Enable people to identify potential risks and vulnerabilities in systems engineering projects and develop mitigation strategies to minimize impact. Proactively monitor emerging technologies and industry trends to anticipate future challenges and opportunities, underscoring the importance of adaptive systems engineering practices. Apply if you have most of the following:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, or a related field. Minimum of 8 years of experience in systems engineering, with at least 3 years in a managerial or leadership role. Currently hold, or eligible to apply for, Professional Engineer (P.Eng) license. Proven track record of successfully leading teams, developing technical capability and driving effective systems engineering practices. In-depth knowledge of systems engineering principles, methodologies, and tools. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to advocate for systems engineering practices to technical and non-technical stakeholders alike. Strong strategic thinking and decision-making abilities, with a focus on driving business impact through systems engineering excellence. Experience in regulated industries such as aerospace, defense, or healthcare is desirable. Certification in project management (e.g., PMP) or systems engineering (e.g., INCOSE) is desirable. Flexible and Agile in Working remotely and in an office in different environments with the requirement to travel if necessary. Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
Must be eligible to meet the requirements of export control regulations, including the Canadian Controlled Goods Program and Canadian government security requirements.
