Job Description

Cloud infrastructure is the backbone of modern payment systems, demanding constant evolution and innovation. At Checkout.com, our Cloud Platform Engineers develop and maintain the cutting-edge infrastructure that powers our global payments platform, enabling high availability, security, and scalability for our merchant solutions worldwide.

We're looking for Senior Cloud Platform Engineers who bring fresh ideas, have a curious nature, and are passionate about working in an engineering environment that focuses on building robust, scalable infrastructure to achieve the company's strategic goals. You'll be instrumental in designing and maintaining the network architecture that enables our product engineering teams to build and deploy solutions efficiently and securely.

As a Senior Cloud Platform Engineer, you will lead and drive critical infrastructure initiatives that support Checkout's growing platform needs. You'll work closely with engineering teams to understand their infrastructure requirements and implement solutions that enhance their productivity while maintaining our high security standards. We need our engineers to be versatile, display exceptional leadership qualities, and be enthusiastic about solving complex infrastructure challenges. Our cloud infrastructure is primarily built on AWS using Infrastructure as Code with Terraform, supported by automation through Python and other modern tools. With your technical expertise, you will drive infrastructure design decisions, implement security best practices, and ensure the reliability of our cloud platform as we scale our global network to support our growing engineering organization.

How You’ll Make An Impact

  • Design and implement cloud infrastructure solutions aligned with architectural standards and business needs
  • Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, ensuring consistent and reliable deployments
  • Lead technical initiatives to improve cloud infrastructure efficiency and automation
  • Drive adoption of cloud networking best practices across engineering teams
  • Architect and implement multi-region, highly available network solutions
  • Design and implement security controls and network policies to protect our platform
  • Collaborate with product engineering teams to understand their networking needs and deliver appropriate solutions
  • Review and implement complex technical changes while maintaining system stability
  • Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation
  • Support and mentor other team members in cloud infrastructure best practices
  • Participate in on-call rotation to support our production systems

Qualifications

  • Expert understanding of AWS networking services including Cloud WAN, VPC Lattice, Transit Gateway, and PrivateLink
  • Deep knowledge of AWS services including EC2, EBS, ECS, IAM, S3, Kinesis, Lambda, and ALB
  • Experience implementing and managing complex VPC architectures with multiple interconnected networks
  • Strong background in network security, including design and implementation of security groups, NACLs
  • Experience with Remote Access Technologies and VPN solutions
  • Strong background in multi-account cloud architecture and VPC design
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Infrastructure as Code, particularly Terraform
  • Working knowledge of modern programming languages (such as Python, Bash, Go)
  • Experience implementing and managing observability platforms (such as Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana) and log aggregation solutions, with exposure to CloudWatch and OpenTelemetry
  • Experience with identity and access management systems like Okta
  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks, particularly PCI and SOC2
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical capabilities
  • Effective communication skills and ability to collaborate across teams
  • Experience with GCP is a plus
