Senior Controls Engineer - Up to £65,000 + Company Car + Overtime | Midlands (Local Travel Only)

We are seeking an experienced Senior Controls Engineer to take ownership of automation and controls projects for a well-established engineering firm. Working with a variety of PLC platforms and robotics systems, this role acts as the bridge between technical execution and commercial delivery.

This is a hands-on position for someone who can lead by example, develop junior staff, and work independently without the need for micromanagement. Most clients are based within a 1.5-hour radius of Coventry, and local travel is required.

Key Responsibilities:

Design and develop PLC software from first principles (5+ years' experience required)

Work across multiple platforms including Siemens, Allen Bradley, etc.

Write and validate safety software in line with safety matrix requirements

Develop servo drive motion control systems

Integrate robotic systems (KUKA, ABB, FANUC)

Act as the interface between the Sales Director and Controls Engineering team

Produce technical documentation, including FDS, O&M manuals, and more

Support and mentor junior engineers to support skills development

Requirements:

Proven background in manufacturing (chemical preferred, but automotive, food, pharma, aerospace or logistics also considered)

Strong understanding of PLCs, safety systems, and motion control

Full UK driving licence and the right to work in the UK

Proficient in Microsoft Office and technical documentation standards

What's on Offer:

Salary up to £65,000 depending on experience

Company car provided

Monday to Friday daytime hours (8:30am-4:00pm)

Overtime paid at 1.3x on Saturdays, 1.5x on Sundays

Flexible start/finish time

23 days holiday plus bank holidays

Pension 3% employee / 5% employer
