We are seeking a Satellite Communications Systems Engineer (Focused on ground segment) to work on our Customers Site (ESA-ECSAT) in the UK. This is a fantastic opportunity to get into one of the most sought-after space agencies in the world.

As a Satellite Communications Systems Engineer you will join the ECSAT community workforce and associated organisations within the European Space Agency where you will have the opportunity to support the activities in the Telecommunication Satellite Domain for cutting-edge projects.

Main Responsibilities

• Support the project preparation and implementation and managing of industrial activities.

• Support preparation of system models and perform system analyses in parallel or in support of industrial activities, especially provide engineering support to the System Engineer as well as both Ground Segment manager in the appropriate areas of competence.

• Provide support to the Programme Manager/System Engineer/Technical Staff in coordinating ESA internal studies and preparing the associated documentation.

• Support the ESA Programme Manager/System Engineer/Technical Staff in monitoring activities related to the industrial activities, especially monitoring the coherent and cost-effective implementation of requirements from system level down to the lower sub-system level.

• Support by participation in Agency Reviews, notably supporting the Programme Manager/System Engineer/Technical Staff in organizing the Phase A/B System Requirements Review and Preliminary Design Review as well as lower-level technical reviews in the relevant field of interest.

• Supporting the definition of technology activities or additional technical studies in preparation of the next Phase of the Programme in the appropriate areas of competence.

• Support the assessment of new concepts and techniques to be applied to next generation telecommunication systems for both space and ground segment.

• Support the assessment of new concepts and techniques to be applied to next generation mobile communication systems for both space and ground segment.

• Support the preparation of inputs to status reports for progress of System Engineers and Programme Managers.

Successful Candidate

• Master’s degree or equivalent in Engineering, or a relevant field.

• At least 4 years proven experience in the satellite communications field.

• Experience in the following domains:

o Satellite Communication Ground Segment Digitalization (Containerization, virtualization, AI/ML, DIFI).

o Satellite Communication terminal/modem development (DVB-S2/S2X, 5G-NR NTN). Experience with FPGA development would ideal.

• Excellent organisation and communications skills.

• Ability to produce high quality documents.

• Desire to work both autonomously and as part of a team, in an international multicultural environment.

• Fluent in English, both written and spoken.

• EU nationals only, no Brits unless duel EU nationality.
