Duties Description Are you interested in starting or advancing your psychology career with New York State? Central New York Psychiatric Center is recruiting for a psychologist 2 to provide professional psychological services under the supervision of a licensed psychologist to individuals with mental illness. Candidates from outside or within State Service can apply.

As a Psychologist 2 at Central New York Psychiatric Center, your duties will include:
• Leading and participating in individual, family, and/or group counseling sessions.
• Administering, scoring, and interpreting psychological tests.
• Developing and implementing treatment or behavioral support plans.

Minimum Qualifications Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement – Statewide (HELPS) program if they have a master’s degree in psychology and three years of supervised, post-degree psychology experience in a clinical, forensic, community mental health, or school setting.

o Substitutions
o Doctoral degree in a clinical field of psychology and 1 year of qualifying experience may be substituted for both the education and experience requirements.
o Clinical psychology practicum, externship, or fieldwork assignment, that was completed as part of a qualifying master of psychology degree, may be substituted for 1 year of the required experience.
o Certificate of advanced study in a clinical field of psychology or school psychology may be substituted for 1 year of required experience.

OR

Candidates from outside or within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they are reachable on the current Psychologist 2 eligible list.

OR

Candidates from within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

OR

In accordance with Section 52.7 of the Civil Service Law, this notice advises all employees of the Office of Mental Health of our intention to conduct a non-competitive promotion examination for the position of Psychologist 2 at Central New York Psychiatric Center Permanent appointment may be made by non-competitive promotion of an applicant who meets the position’s minimum qualifications if all requirements of non-competitive promotion are met.

The promotion field for the Psychologist 2 position consists of candidates who have 1 year of permanent service as a psychologist 1.
