Job Title: Freelance Project Manager - Highways Drainage (NH Framework)
Location: Split across East and Midlands - Areas 6 & 7
Contract Type: Freelance / Contract (6-month minimum)
Hours: 40-50 hours per week
Start Date: Immediate
Rate: Competitive - DOE
Travel/Vehicle: No van or fuel card provided; predominantly office-based (satellite office or main offices in Hucknall or Higham)

Overview:

We are currently seeking a Freelance Project Manager with strong experience in highways and drainage to support works being delivered under the National Highways Scheme Delivery Framework (NH SDF). The role will cover Areas 6 & 7 and will involve managing up to 4 concurrent drainage projects at any one time.
This is an immediate requirement with a minimum commitment of 6 months, offering a fantastic opportunity to be involved in essential infrastructure projects across the East and Midlands regions.

Key Responsibilities:

Oversee delivery of drainage works on NH framework projects within Areas 6 & 7

Liaise with internal delivery teams and senior management (reporting line currently to Contracts Manager)

Manage project timelines, costs, safety, and quality in line with NH standards and NEC 4 contract procedures

Coordinate with site teams, subcontractors, and relevant stakeholders

Ensure compliance with H&S and CDM regulations

Maintain accurate project records and reporting documentation

Work from satellite sites or regional offices (Leeds or Birmingham) as needed

Requirements:

Proven background in highways and civil engineering project delivery

Minimum NVQ Level 6 in Construction Management (or equivalent)

Valid SMSTS certification

NH Common Induction Passport preferred (not essential)

Strong working knowledge of NEC4 contracts (highly advantageous)

Hands-on drainage experience on highways/infrastructure projects

Strong organisational and communication skills
