Our Engineering Research and Development department (ER&D) is a fast growing function within Tata Technologies Limited that works on exciting projects globally for multiple customers. It comprises highly specialised engineers across Automotive, Aerospace and Industrial Heavy Machinery.

The Role

As the BEV Propulsion System Product Owner, you will lead the technical definition, development and delivery of the integrated propulsion system for the customer’s next-generation battery electric vehicles. You will act as the voice of the propulsion system within the BEV domain, ensuring alignment between system architecture, vehicle programme goals and cross-functional delivery teams. This role drives innovation, system integration and technical excellence across hardware, software and attribute delivery.

Area of Responsibility
  • System Ownership & Vision Define and communicate the propulsion system vision, ensuring alignment with customer expectations, programme targets and the customer’s electrification strategy.
  • Technical Integration Lead the integration of major propulsion units (e.g., EDU, HV battery, power electronics) and ensure seamless interaction with vehicle systems.
  • Agile Leadership Serve as the Product Owner for the BEV Propulsion Agile Squad, managing the product backlog, prioritising features, and facilitating sprint planning and showcases.
  • Target Book Management Own the BEV Architecture Target Book, ensuring functional and attribute targets are compatible across propulsion systems and vehicle teams.
  • Design Verification & Quality Develop and maintain a system-level Design Verification Plan (DVP) based on customer requirements, functional analysis and failure mode assessments.
  • Partner Collaboration Act as the single point of contact for propulsion-related knowledge transfer to external partners using customer’s electric vehicle platforms.
  • Forward Model Quality Lead Forward Model Quality (FMQ) workstreams to ensure future robustness, reliability and compliance with regulatory standards.
Knowledge / Experience
  • Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Automotive Engineering (Master’s preferred).
  • Proven experience in automotive powertrain domain and propulsion system development for BEVs, including HV systems and component integration.
  • Strong understanding of systems engineering principles, Agile methodologies and technical programme delivery.
  • Experience with tools such as JIRA, Confluence and model-based systems engineering.
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and decision-making skills.
  • Familiarity with HV architectures and advanced power electronics.
  • Experience in cross-functional leadership across hardware and software domains.
  • Knowledge of customer’s engineering processes and technical gateway systems.
  • Ability to mentor junior engineers and foster a culture of innovation.
