Reporting to the Design Engineering Manager, the Producibility Engineer will be responsible for the manufacturability/producibility of new designs as well as leading manufacturability/producibility improvements for existing designs. The successful candidate will be a technical authority able to assess and sentence any potential non-conformity. You will be required to work collaboratively with all disciplines including Design, Manufacturing, Quality, Operations and Supply Chain to implement design and manufacturing improvements, improve product quality and reduce costs.
Lead Design for Manufacturing process. Work in collaboration with Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations, Quality and External Supply Chain teams to ensure cost, delivery and product safety targets are met. Drive rapid resolution of issues during industrialisation and production. Ensure root cause identification and corrective action implementation to improve performance and eradicate repeat defects. Ensure delivery of robust manufacturing technical packages & methods for all production components to meet quality, cost, delivery targets (Manufacturing method, Technical Instructions, Inspection plans, Manufacturing Stage Drawings etc). Support the High Performance Culture (HPC) in the team to initiate and champion continuous improvement. Drive continuous improvements to eliminate the need for concessions and rework. Control and reduce costs to drive profitability in the factory by continuously challenging the methods of manufacture across the product family. Effective and timely assessment and sentencing of internal/external concessions, production permits and manufacturing quality issues. Deployment and execution of DAR and PCB process, as well as implementation of minor design modifications. Technical Authority – Ensure design intent is achieved. Drive lessons learned into the methods and designs during Product Introduction and subsequent manufacturing with a focus on safety, cost, delivery and lead time. Responsible for day-to-day production support activities where engineering input is required to support manufacturing operations. Education – Engineering Degree or equivalent experience in engineering management and/or an operational function. Experience – Worked previously as a Designer or Manufacturing Engineer within aerospace, automotive or industrial sectors, and familiar with Quality, Industrialisation and Operations processes. Working with sheet metal parts, castings, complex parts machined from billet and complex assemblies. Experience working with welded and brazed fabrications is desirable. Demonstrated technical knowledge in previous roles. Solid design engineering background Expertise in the design and definition process of complex products through the product life cycle. Experience using CAD (ideally NX) and PLM (Teamcenter) packages. Experience in continuous improvement, root cause investigation and lean techniques Experience working with heat exchangers and pipework assemblies is desirable. Excellent analytical and communication skills. Design for X experience (where X is, cost, manufacture, maintenance and build). Has demonstrated effective technical and /or professional leadership to a team of Engineers. Successfully delivered small projects across Design Engineering and/or Manufacturing Engineering, with a focus on cost, delivery and quality improvements. Proven track record in leading change across the wider business at pace. Has practical experience of operating within a production or external supply chain facility in either a Design Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering capacity. Has practical experience of New Product Introduction, Industrialisation, Production and associated processes.
