Leonardo, Edinburgh is home to our world leading Advanced Targeting, Typhoon, and Airborne AESA Radar business areas. This is also home to our servicing and support line of business (CS3) who are uniquely positioned to service our world leading radars, lasers and infra-red countermeasure systems.

Within our Servicing and Support line of business (CS3) we have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Quality Engineer.

The Principal Quality Engineer will interact at Programme and Integrated Project Team (IPT) level. Working in partnership with the CS3 Quality Team and the respective Programme and Project Managers. The salary range for this role is £48,000 - £58,000 per year.

What you'll do as a Principal Quality Engineer:

Working in partnership with the Quality team and Programme/Project Managers to:

  • Identify the specific programme and project risks, threats and opportunities you will manage
  • Maintain and deliver upon Project Assurance Plans (PAP) defining project assurance activities aligned to Risk, Opportunity and Improvement within the Programme and associated Pro-operating in line with the requirements of the Operational Framework
  • Manage Programme and Project Risks, Threats and Opportunities to reduce impact on Programme and Project
  • Take leadership, on behalf of the IPT, on all instances of Non Conformance and Failure and ensure situations are managed collectively to closure through Root Cause identification and respective robust corrective actions
  • Provide Guidance to the Assurance Team in order to meet Programme and IPT objectives
  • Contribute to the Assurance function's improvement plans across all phases of the Programme, Product and Project Lifecycle
  • Successful apply interpersonal skills to positively mentor and coach to grow quality excellence within both the CS3 Quality Team and the IPT
  • Provide reports and supporting data to the Project Assurance Manager, Quality Manager and Project Managers as required.
  • Deputise, as appropriate to the Quality Team Leader and Project Assurance Manager

What we need from you:

  • Ideally a Bachelor's Degree [or equivalent] in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing or experience in Defence Electronics or similarly "complex" industry.
  • Be able to demonstrate Governance and knowledge within the areas of AS9100 / ISO9001 and Continuous improvement.
  • Be able to demonstrate knowledge in applying Quality Tools such as Root Cause Corrective Action, Pattern Fault Lifecycle, Process Mapping, Verification and First Article Inspection.
  • Be a logical thinker, capable of harvesting complex data into actions with practical solutions that supports business goals, in 'the language of the business'.
  • Have good interpersonal skills and a collaborative working style
  • Be able to demonstrate experience in working with numerous stakeholders
  • Have demonstrated experience of working within high functioning quality teams
