Rate: £30.80 per hour PAYE or £40.64 Umbrella
Working Arrangements:Expectation is 2 days on site per week as a minimum
About the Role
Join our team at BAE Systems as aSenior Detail Designer - Structures. In this pivotal role, you'll leverage your technical expertise to deliver high-quality design solutions within a team of up to 25. Acting as a mentor and role model, you'll guide team members, support early careers, and ensure the delivery of robust, quality-assured outputs.
Key Responsibilities

• Operate as a senior designer with high technical capability, demonstrating exemplary behaviours and supporting team development.
• Progress complex design activities to completion using tools like CAD and coach team members through challenges.
• Check and assure the quality of work produced by the team, providing final sign-off and creating Quality Care Points as needed.
• Offer technical guidance on Detail Design processes and Management Systems, supporting audits and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Represent the Principal Detail Designer at management meetings and deputize during their absence.
• Provide troubleshooting and technical support in assigned areas, ensuring solutions align with warship design standards and lifecycle requirements.

Core Skills and Experience

• In-depth knowledge of sub-discipline design processes and the ability to perform detailed analysis and sound judgment.
• Broad understanding of warship design and the ability to make trade-off decisions.
• Strong mentoring and quality assurance skills, with the ability to deliver constructive feedback.
• Experience with engineering design or within a defence-related industry, including multiple phases of the Lifecycle Management (LCM) process.

Qualifications

• HNC/HND in a technology, engineering, or science-related discipline (expected).
• Registration as a Technician or Incorporated Engineer with the Engineering Council (preferred).
• Membership in a relevant professional body (preferred).
