Astute Technical Recruitment are working with one of the UK's leading waste management & recycling companies who own & operate a large Energy from Waste plant as well as a fleet of barges for transporting waste along the Thames.

We are looking for a Mechanical Fitter to join their Shipyard & Workshop located in Gravesend, Kent. As a Mechanical Fitter you'll be responsible for providing mechanical fitting & fabrication duties on a variety of marine vessels & equipment.

Responsibilities and duties:
Reporting to the Shipyard Manager, as a Mechanical Fitter you will be responsible for:
Assisting with mechanical services for engines & marine equipment.
Operating and maintaining plant equipment & vehicles in line with company policies.
Undertake specialised mechanical overhaul & repair work on marine equipment including propulsion, ancillary equipment & pipe systems.
Utilise schematic charts & technical manuals to aide in the repair and maintenance of equipment.
Test mechanical equipment and machineries to determine issues prior to repair.
Carry out non-destructive testing.
Ensure site is compliance with all relevant HSE policies and legislation.

Professional qualifications
We are looking for someone with the following:
Diploma in Marine Construction / Mechanical Installation/ System Engineering & Maintenance
Apprentice trained in Mechanical Fitting / Engineering or similar
ILM Level 2 award in Leadership

Personal skills
The Mechanical Fitter would suit someone with:
Able to work at height & in confined / enclosed spaces
Competent using workshop equipment including turning, drilling, welding, soldering, CNC machining
Competent working on a variety of mechanical equipment typically found in the marine sector
