Mechanical Design Engineer

We are working with an industry-leading engineering firm at the cutting edge of avionics and marine systems, supporting their search for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their dynamic, fast-paced design team.

Whether you're a recent graduate or bring industry experience, this is a fantastic opportunity to work on technically complex, highly regulated projects in one of the UK's most innovative engineering environments. You’ll be designing robust mechanical solutions to house sophisticated electronics – collaborating closely with electronics and PCB engineers – and taking ownership of your designs from concept to production.

If you're looking for a varied, hands-on role in a forward-thinking company where no two days are the same, this could be the ideal next step.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop mechanical parts and assemblies using SolidWorks

  • Create detailed production drawings and technical documentation

  • Collaborate with electronics/PCB designers to meet space and performance constraints

  • Conduct thermal and mechanical simulations

  • Support initial production builds and troubleshooting

  • Participate in design verification, qualification, and peer reviews

  • Work cross-functionally with production, quality, and project teams

  • Deliver projects within agreed timeframes and budgets

  • Maintain accurate technical records and reports

    Requirements:

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Proficiency in 3D CAD – ideally SolidWorks

  • Experience across the full product design lifecycle

  • Strong team player with a self-starter mentality

  • Practical problem-solving mindset and willingness to learn

  • Organised, methodical, and capable of managing personal workload

    Desirable:

  • Prior experience in a high-reliability or regulated environment (e.g., aerospace, defence, marine)

  • Familiarity with design for manufacture and assembly (DFMA)

  • Exposure to simulation tools for thermal or mechanical analysis
