Job summary

A new opportunity has arisen to join our friendly, dedicated team and applications are invited for a Locum Less Than full Time Consultant in Renal Medicine and General Medicine. This post will be based primarily at The Cumberland Infirmary Carlisle (CIC), although we also support West Cumberland Hospital (WCH) so there will be a requirement to work across both sites if needed. The post involves out-patient and in-patient duties and a regular commitment to both in-reach into the medical admissions unit and on-call for general medicine.

This position will incorporate in-patient ward work as well as clinics and on-call commitments.

We currently have 1 Renal/General medicine ward which is based at The Cumberland Infirmary. We also have 2 renal dialysis units (1 at CIC, with 12 beds and 1 at WCH with 11 beds). CIC is the main hub and the WCH unit is a satellite unit. We are looking to expand these units in the future.

Main duties of the job

Brief duties include:

-Reviewing patients on the renal wards and renal units as well as other wards in the hospital.

-Undertake ward rounds

-Performing outpatient clinics

-Training/Supervising staff

-Partaking in the on call rota as well as the medical on call rota

-Reviewing patients in the Emergency Department/Acute Medical Unit where necessary

Education and Qualifications

Essential

MBBS Fully registered on the UK General Medical Council Dual accreditation in Nephrology and General Medicine with the appropriate Royal College MRCP (UK) or equivalent

Desirable

Fellow of Royal College of Physicians Higher degree Educational qualifications ALS

Experience and Knowledge

Essential

High level of clinical experience and competence in Renal and General Medicine Completed Higher Specialist Training (CCT) in Nephrology or evidence of equivalent competency Excellent communication skills with patients, colleagues, managers and other staff Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients

Desirable

A commitment to, and experience of teaching

Experience of, and commitment to, teaching undergraduate and postgraduate medical staff.
