Lead Technical Operator, Motorsports

SES is currently looking to hire a Lead Technical Operator, Motorsports to support our Sports & Events team. We are looking for a Technical Operator who has strong knowledge and extensive experience in TV Distribution Operations and knowledge of both Engineering and IT operations within a Television Distribution environment. You will have strong customer service skills and be able to communicate with the customer and internally in a clear, calm and concise manner. You will be responsible for managing the SES operation location in greater London, working closely with Customers,other MCR’s, and takers. 

 

The ideal candidate will be proactive, motivated, a self-starter and solutions oriented. You must also be available to work all race weekends (~26 weekends per year).
 

As Lead Technical Operator, Motorsports you will be responsible for (this is not an exhaustive list):

  • Participating in all customer calls prior, during, and after the event
  • Communicating and leading changes in the required setup for each race
  • First point of customer contact during an event
  • Making decisions about routing changes, back-up activation and initiates change deployment
  • Conducting prerace line-up and testing
  • Continual monitoring of all incoming and outgoing signals during the event
  • Overseeing and working alongside SES sub-contractor for Satellite Services
  • Coordinating with SES MCR’s to ensure seamless transmission of signals worldwide
  • 1st line troubleshooting all equipment, including Encoding, Decoding, Multiplexing, Transmission and Monitoring equipment
  • Installatingany new or replacement equipment
  • Involved with wider technical team on solutions for future system development
  • Overseeing management and planning of additional projects, as required
  • Overall responsibility for technical support of major S&E events for top tier customers
  • During non-race weeks, support other projects as assigned

 

YOUR PROFILE


1. You must have

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field, 
  • More than 5 years related professional experience, including leading engineering & technology teams in the TV, cable or media industry
  • Strong knowledge of linear and IP video distribution concepts, including SRT, Zixi and SRT
  • Proven ability to lead support of a major broadcast operation with defined escalation processes and pro-cedures; Proven ability to manage multiple, urgent priorities simultaneously
  • Knowledge of master control technologies, workflows and uplink systems 
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze, compile and deliver regular clear, concise reports detailing system per-formance and reliability
  • Experience in motorsports racing production and/or distribution beneficial
  • Ability to work well under pressure delivering Tier 1 content in a Global environment.

 

2. It would be nice if you had

  • High level of knowledge in Sports/Events OU technologies – including DVB, IT, Network and RF
  • Proven ability to build strong relationships, effective teamwork, and the ability to lead by influence
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, self-motivation, and attention to detail
  • Organized, results oriented, self-starter, and highly motivated  
  • Strong customer service orientation and customer centricity mindset
  • Familiarity of major, Tier 1 rightsholders in the global sports market
     

 

This position is based out of Biggin Hill.
