SYR are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Naval Architect to join our clients dynamic team.

The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge and expertise in the design, construction, and maintenance of ships, boats, and other maritime vessels.

As the Lead Naval Architect, you will be responsible for overseeing the design process, managing a team of engineers, and ensuring that projects meet both technical specifications and industry standards.

This role offers the opportunity to work on innovative and challenging projects within the maritime industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and Analysis: Lead the conceptual and detailed design of vessels, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, safety requirements, and operational efficiency.

  • Project Management: Oversee multiple projects, ensuring timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met. Coordinate with clients, engineers, and production teams to ensure successful project delivery.

  • Team Leadership: Manage and mentor a team of naval architects and engineers, fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing. Provide technical guidance and ensure that design solutions align with project goals.

  • Technical Documentation: Prepare and review technical reports, design documentation, and calculations. Ensure proper documentation for the approval of designs by regulatory authorities.

  • Risk Assessment: Conduct risk assessments and ensure designs are optimized for safety, performance, and reliability.

  • Innovation and Research: Stay up to date with the latest trends, technologies, and regulations in the maritime industry. Propose innovative design solutions and improvements to enhance vessel performance and reduce environmental impact.

  • Client Interaction: Work directly with clients to understand their needs, propose design solutions, and provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle.

    Key Requirements:

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in Naval Architecture, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.

  • Proven experience in vessel design, construction, and maintenance.

  • Strong proficiency in naval architecture software (e.g., Rhino, NAPA, AutoCAD, ShipConstructor).

  • In-depth knowledge of maritime regulations, codes, and industry standards.

  • Exceptional project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Ability to analyze complex technical issues and provide practical, innovative solutions.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Chartered Engineer status (or equivalent).

  • Experience with sustainable design practices and energy-efficient vessels.

  • Familiarity with advanced technologies in the maritime sector (e.g., autonomous ships, hybrid propulsion systems).
