At Mitsubishi Power Europe, we deliver more than energy solutions — we drive transformation across the power generation industry. As a global leader in advanced energy systems and digital innovation, we are looking for a Lead Control Systems Engineer to help shape the future of industrial control and digital performance.

This is a high-impact role for an experienced engineer who combines technical depth with team leadership ability, a customer-first mindset, and a passion for problem-solving in critical environments.

About the Role

As a Lead Control Systems Engineer, you’ll lead the development, implementation, and support of industrial control system solutions across a broad range of technologies. You’ll work on Mitsubishi and non-OEM platforms, including gas and steam turbines, generators, and auxiliary systems. From cybersecurity upgrades to digital transformation, your work will be key to ensuring the performance, safety, and reliability of mission-critical energy assets.

You'll also mentor a team of talented engineers, act as a technical point of contact for customers, and drive the delivery of innovative solutions — including Mitsubishi’s flagship TOMONI digital platform.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead the full lifecycle of control system projects - including design, configuration, installation, programming, commissioning, and ongoing support across multiple platforms (e.g. Netmation, HIACS, GE Mark Vle, Siemens S7). Support the operation and maintenance of Mitsubishi Power control systems for gas turbines, steam turbines, generators, and relevant auxiliary systems during scheduled/forced outages as well as during normal operation. Troubleshoot and implement upgrades to control hardware, software, and HMI systems, with a strong focus on operational reliability, cybersecurity, and customer uptime. Support the Control Systems team in the design, implementation, troubleshooting, and upgrading of customer control systems, including hardware, software, and cybersecurity solutions. Act as a trusted technical advisor to customers, providing hands-on and remote support during planned outages, operational challenges, and system enhancements. Champion digital innovation, including the deployment of TOMONI solutions, cybersecurity tools, and automation improvements. Support sales and commercial activities by contributing to technical proposals, RFQs, and system specifications. Maintain engineering quality standards, ensuring compliance with internal procedures and industry regulations.

What We’re Looking For

Degree in Electrical, Instrumentation, or Systems Engineering (or equivalent experience). 5+ years’ experience in industrial control systems with a proven track record in the full lifecycle, including design, configuration, installation, programming, and commissioning. Proficient in PLC/DCS programming languages (Ladder, Function Block, Pseudo Code, SFC). Familiar with control systems such as GE Mark VIe, Siemens S7, Allen-Bradley RSLogix, and HMI platforms like InTouch, iFix, or CIMPLICITY. Strong understanding of cybersecurity practices, industrial protocols (Modbus, OPC, Ethernet/IP), and IT/OT networking. Experience with Mitsubishi (Netmation, MELCO) and Hitachi (HIACS) control systems. Knowledge of turbine and generator operations. Familiarity with safety standards and industry regulations. Excellent communication skills and a proactive approach to customer service.

Space Industry Recruitment Trends 2025 (UK): What Job Seekers Need To Know About Today’s Hiring Process

Summary: UK space‑sector hiring has shifted from pedigree‑first screening to capability‑driven evaluation across the full stack—spacecraft systems, payload/RF, flight software, GNC/ADCS, propulsion, structures/thermal, AIT (assembly–integration–test), mission/ground operations, reliability/radiation, and compliance (ECSS, export control). Employers want proof you can build, test, operate and scale space systems safely and economically. This guide explains what’s changed, what to expect in interviews & how to prepare—especially for satellite/spacecraft engineers, payload & RF/MM‑wave, flight & ground software, GNC/ADCS, power/thermal, AIT/test, mission ops, data/EO, and space product/TPM roles. Who this is for: Systems engineers, payload/RF engineers, flight software & FDIR, GNC/ADCS, power/thermal/structures, propulsion, AIT/test, reliability/radiation, QA/compliance, ground segment/cloud, mission operations, EO/data processing, and product/programme managers targeting roles in the UK space ecosystem.

Why Space Careers in the UK Are Becoming More Multidisciplinary

The UK’s space sector is growing fast — from satellite systems and Earth observation to satellite communications, space robotics, propulsion, space data analytics, and mission operations. But the nature of space work is changing. Projects involving satellites, launch systems, space robotics and ground infrastructure are now embedded in regulation, public perception, human interaction and cross-disciplinary design. Space careers in the UK used to be dominated by engineers, astrophysicists, systems analysts and telemetry experts. Today, they increasingly demand fluency not only in aerospace, software, electronics & data, but also in law, ethics, psychology, linguistics & design. After all, space systems operate under treaties, privacy constraints, public scrutiny, international collaborations and human interfaces. In this article, we explore why space careers in the UK are becoming more multidisciplinary, how those allied fields intersect with space work, and what job-seekers & employers must do to thrive in this evolving cosmos.

UK Space Team Structures Explained: Who Does What in a Modern Space Department

The UK space sector is rapidly expanding. With growth in satellite design, Earth observation, communications, launch systems, space science, downstream applications, and regulatory and operational services, there’s rising demand for skilled professionals across many disciplines. Building a high-impact space organisation requires well-defined team structures, clear roles, strong collaboration, and alignment across engineering, science, operations, regulation, and commercial functions. If you are applying for roles via UKSpaceJobs.co.uk or hiring into your company, this guide will help you understand the principal roles you’ll find in a space team, how they interact during mission lifecycles, what skills UK employers expect, salary norms, common challenges, and best practice for structuring space teams that succeed.
