You’ll be working centrally within our mission control room, aka Centrica’s group functions. Join our cross-functional team in Digital Technology Services at Centrica, where we provide essential engineering services. Our teams are responsible for building, testing, and running platforms in production.
Role Overview
We are seeking aHead of Engineeringto oversee the end-to-end delivery of products or platforms composed of multiple services. You will collaborate closely with a product peer to define and build a roadmap and platform strategy. Leading a small team of engineering managers and experienced software engineers, you will form your own leadership team.
As part of the larger Product Engineering and Data Services leadership team, you will help shape the engineering strategy, focusing on people, processes, the engineering ecosystem, and platform architecture.
Location: We have a hybrid-work environment, where you will be predominantly home-based but required to travel to office-sites as and when required
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and implement new features/enhancements to meet business needs.
Oversee the entire software development life cycle, from design to deployment.
Guide and mentor software engineering managers and their teams, participate in design reviews, and provide feedback on design quality.
Proactively improve deployment, monitoring, alerting, and incident handling practices.
Manage stakeholder communications and planning.
Track and improve engineering excellence metrics within the platform.
Coach and develop engineering talent, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and customer focus.
About You
Software Development: 5+ years of experience in software development, including hands-on coding and software design.
Team Management: 5+ years of experience leading and managing engineering teams.
Product Development: Experience overseeing the development and launch of software products.
Stakeholder Management: Experience collaborating with departments such as Product, Sales, and Marketing.
Security: Knowledge of security best practices, protocols, encryption, and data protection. Familiarity with security audits and compliance is beneficial.
Design: Experience with system design, architecture, and modelling, including design principles and patterns.
Strategy: Proven experience in strategic planning and execution, setting technical direction, driving innovation, and making high-level technical decisions.
