Head of Communications Systems Engineer - UK

Join a world leader in delivering advanced space sensors, satellite communications technology, and supporting exploration and space operations missions. As our presence grows, we are looking for an experienced Head of Communications Systems Engineering to lead and develop our engineering team, ensuring world-class delivery of satellite systems and related technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a system engineers.

  • Provide technical leadership across satellite and telecommunications projects.

  • Contribute to bids and proposals with communications systems engineering inputs, including cost and planning.

  • Own the communications systems engineering process across projects.

  • Serve as technical interface to customers and subcontractors; capture and manage engineering requirements.

  • Develop innovative solutions and produce system budgets (power, mass, etc.).

  • Oversee design, integration, and testing across engineering disciplines.

  • Plan test campaigns, troubleshoot hardware/software, analyse data, and report results.

  • Ensure verified flight equipment meets customer requirements with clear documentation.

    Experience:

  • Strong commercial experience in systems engineering in satellite or telecommunications industries.

  • Strong experience as lead systems engineer/architect on telecom projects.

  • Strong understanding of RF telecommunications technology, including software, electronics, ASICs, and FPGA.

  • Proven team management experience leading large teams

  • Knowledge and/or experience of

    • Design for space, satellite payloads, and low Earth orbit communications.

    • Military satellite communications systems.

    • ECSS standards and design-for-space methodologies.

    • On-board digital signal processing, phased array antenna design, and optics/laser systems (e.g., Lidar, infrared cameras).

    • Technology roadmap definition, AIT, production, and PA/QA experience.
