Responsibilities & Qualifications
What awaits you:
AsGovernment Affairs Managerin the Novelis Europe Government Affairs team, you will report directly to the Director, Europe Government Affairs. In this position you will work to influence UK and EU legislation, regulation and policy debates to secure benefits and minimize risks to our business, create and cultivate a network with relevant policymakers, and represent Novelis’ business and policy interests in meetings with policymakers, external advocacy groups and industry representatives in collaboration with Novelis Europe executives and subject matter experts, with focus on UK, UK-EU relationships, and circularity/decarbonization.
The tasks in detail:
Drive implementation of Novelis’ government affairs strategy with focus on UK affairs, UK/EU relationships and circularity/decarbonization, and develop positions and policy requests in alignment with business stakeholders. Create and cultivate network with, and expand Novelis’ outreach to, UK stakeholders. Target public policy outcomes aligned with our corporate strategy and work to influence legislation, regulation, and policy debates to enable a decarbonized and circular economy, secure benefits and minimize risks to our business. Support Novelis UK for external relations to industry and media and for communications in case of crisis. Support communications on policy issues and government affairs activities. Participate and represent Novelis’ interests in relevant industry associations.
The position will include frequent interactions with the UK-based Novelis team as well as Novelis Europe business leaders and subject matter experts for purposes of understanding the impact of policy on the business and ensuring the right policy positioning and messaging.
How you convince us:
You have a thorough understanding of the policy-making processes, political landscape, and market dynamics. You have a strong network in the UK and are talented at coalition-building and inspiring others. You are, or will swiftly become, proficient on topics such as circularity/recycling and decarbonization and are able to quickly grasp and explain complex and sometimes very technical issues and needs in an engaging and convincing manner, both orally and in writing, as needed for impactful government and public affairs.
What will you have:
A higher education and advanced degree in public policy, political science, law, or related disciplines. A minimum of 6 years experience in public policy, legislative affairs, lobbying, or applicable areas related to recycling/sustainability. Strong network of contacts in the UK. Demonstrated interest and working knowledge in policy issues such as circular economy, climate and trade and the political process. Strategic mindset, strong relationship management capabilities and demonstrated success in proactively building and working collaboratively with strategic alliances, coalitions, trade groups, etc. Extremely proactive, collaborative, organized, detail-oriented, with an ability to juggle multiple issues and activities simultaneously in a highly professional manner. Highly engaging and self-motivated, responsive, results-oriented with proven ability to deliver results within tight timeframes and to work independently as well as within a team. Native English speaker; proficiency in German/French/Italian a plus; outstanding communications skills in writing and orally.

Location Profile
The Novelis Latchford plant a suburb of Warrington Cheshire in England employs approximately 200 employees. It is one of Europe’s largest aluminium used beverage cans recycling plants and Europe’s largest closed-loop recycling operation for automotive aluminium rolled products with an annual recycling capacity of up to 195000 tonnes. The plant is an essential part of Novelis’ European production and collaborated with Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) to create the first closed-loop system in Europe with a dedicated railway service to efficiently deliver aluminium between Novelis and JLR’s production site in the UK. The Latchford plant is committed to its community in supporting math and science education to local schools as well as sharing the value of safety and works with a local charitable foundation to sponsoring health. In addition Novelis UK supports the program “Every Can Counts” to actively promote can recycling across Europe.
