As part of our team, the Electrical Engineering Manager will be involved in projects at all stages of the product lifecycle, from initial concept generation, new product introduction through to design delivery and continuous improvement in manufacture. This person will be responsible for the technical and administrative management of the Electrical Engineering group.


Job overview:

As the Electrical Engineering Manager, you'll be responsible for the company's electrical design and engineering activities by taking ideas from the technology team and translating these into concepts, practical designs and solutions, leading the development of all engineering solutions and providing 3rd line support.

Responsibilities:

  • Technical and administrative management of the work activities, deliverables and environment for the Electrical Engineering team.
  • Develop new product introduction programs in accordance with the organisation’s objectives and ensure that these are delivered on time and to budget.
  • Provide technical leadership.
  • Support and conduct design reviews per established project plans, determining and adjudicating open action items, project risk elements and managing constraints to closure.
  • Enforce proper configuration control and document release processes including oversight of Agile and the configuration of EPlan and its outputs.
  • Understand and drive organisational processes for the ISO: 19001 quality management system related to design, analysis, plans and other Engineering documentation.
  • Train and mentor Engineers and other support staff via personal development methodologies.
  • Conduct regular 1:1 meetings in the form of check in’s, conduct annual reviews, provide feedback and career path guidance.
  • Be responsible for design sign-off to the manufacturing group and process Engineering Change Requests (ECR’s)and Engineering Change Orders (ECO’s) through Agile.
  • Provide support via your team for commissioning of all equipment in the factory and on customer’s site.
  • Provide onsite and organisational support for the Programs Department.
  • Contribute to the development of business strategy and plans.
  • Maintain awareness of current market, economic and technology trends to maximise opportunities and minimise risk.
  • In conjunction with the Engineering management team, contribute to identifying alternative markets and adjacent space opportunities to extend the product portfolio’s market reach.
  • Duties may be modified or assigned at any time to meet the needs of the business.


Qualifications and Experience:

  • Strong leadership skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Communication skills – both verbal and written, especially interfacing with teams.
  • Organisational and planning skills
  • Ability to mentor, motivate and educate early career engineers
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Extensive knowledge of electrical design via CAD (EPlan)
  • Extensive knowledge of electrical systems and components with some knowledge of PLC systems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of CE directives related to electrical products.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and compliance to safety standards called out by CE, ANSI, UL, CSA, etc.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of reliability practices as related to electrical design.
  • Strong background in the creation of new design concepts for electro-mechanical products driven by PLC.
  • Understanding of skills required to develop complex electro-mechanical assemblies.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate independently and cross functionally with excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Punctuality and reliability.
  • Experience of design for manufacture, with a background in a production environment would be beneficial.
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical/electronic engineering (Minimum).
  • Postgraduate degree (Preferred).
  • Minimum ten years of professional experience as an engineer.
  • Minimum five years of experience leading a team in delivering innovative hardware.
  • EPlan design experience is essential, with a proven track record in the design of large power and control circuits, with experience of electrical/electronic component selection including power solutions (transformers and generators).
  • The ability to work with other design packages such as AutoCad would be beneficial.
