Location: South Birmingham (outskirts of Redditch)
Salary: Circa £55k per annum

This is a fantastic opportunity to contribute to the production of high-quality components and provide your expertise within a supportive environment.

  • Competitive salary: Circa £55k per annum (negotiable depending on level of experience)

  • Hours: Days, 7.30am - 16.30pm with an early Friday finish

    Key Responsibilities:

    Electrical discharge machining (EDM), also known as spark machining or spark eroding, is a non-traditional machining process that uses electrical energy to remove material from a workpiece. It's a precise method for cutting, drilling, and shaping metal parts, especially those with intricate geometries or hard materials.

    You will;

  • Be the Technical Authority: You'll leverage your deep understanding of EDM principles, including spark erosion, dielectric fluids, and material removal rates. You'll be the go-to expert for various EDM types like Wire EDM, Sinker EDM, and Hole Drilling EDM.

  • Exhibit Hands-on Expertise: You'll directly operate and troubleshoot EDM machines and controls, performing crucial machine calibration and maintenance. You'll also utilize advanced CNC EDM systems and programming.

  • Achieve Material Mastery: You'll apply your extensive knowledge of how different materials behave under EDM conditions to recommend appropriate machining strategies and optimize settings for maximum efficiency and quality.

  • Ensure Quality Assurance: You'll be responsible for ensuring strict adherence to quality standards (like ISO, ASTM, etc.). This includes creating clear standard operating procedures (SOPs) and conducting thorough quality audits.

  • Facilitate Knowledge Transfer: You'll train and mentor junior engineers, machinists, and operators on EDM techniques, assessing their skill levels, providing constructive feedback, and fostering a continuous learning environment within the team.

  • Provide Project Leadership: You'll manage EDM-related projects from initial design to final execution, ensuring all deadlines are met and quality standards are exceeded. You'll also collaborate closely with other departments to optimize overall product outcomes.

  • Drive Continuous Improvement: You'll stay ahead of the curve by staying updated on emerging EDM technologies and trends, actively integrating these innovations into current practices to enhance efficiency and capabilities.

    About You:
    To excel in this role, you'll need a blend of technical expertise, practical experience, and a proactive mindset.

    Essential Requirements:

  • Unrestricted right to work in the UK.

  • Willingness to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

    This position requires the successful candidate to undergo UK security clearance. To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the above essential requirements. Please note that due to the security clearance requirements, we are unable to sponsor visas for this position.

    Skills Required:

  • Strong background working on EDM Machines is essential

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and ERP Systems

  • Experience with Computer Aided Engineering Software

  • Training / Management / Supervisor or Mentoring experience is required

  • A degree or equivalent in an engineering-related discipline (e.g., HNC Engineering)
