The role of a Defence Sector Control Panel Wireman involves wiring, assembling, and maintaining control panels and electrical systems used in defence equipment or facilities. This is a highly specialised role that combines technical skills in electrical wiring, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of defence-sector requirements and standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Control Panel Assembly:

    • Read and interpret detailed technical drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams.

    • Assemble components for control panels, such as relays, switches, circuit breakers, and PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers).

    • Route and terminate wires in compliance with specifications.

    • Must be able to obtain UK Security Clearance

  2. Wiring and Connections:

    • Install and connect cables and wiring in control panels, ensuring proper functionality and adherence to safety regulations.

    • Use tools like crimpers, soldering irons, and testing devices for precision.

  3. Quality and Compliance:

    • Test and troubleshoot systems to ensure operational reliability.

    • Comply with industry standards (e.g., MIL-STD) and defence regulations for electrical systems.

    • Document and report quality checks and system issues.

  4. Maintenance and Repairs:

    • Conduct routine maintenance on control panels and systems.

    • Diagnose and repair wiring or component faults promptly to maintain functionality.

  5. Collaboration and Security:

    • Work closely with engineers, technicians, and project managers.

    • Follow strict security protocols due to the sensitive nature of defence projects.

      Skills and Qualifications:

  • Technical Knowledge:

    • Proficiency in electrical wiring and instrumentation.

    • Familiarity with defence-grade materials and standards.

  • Tools Proficiency:

    • Hands-on experience with multimeters, wire strippers, soldering equipment, and control panel tools.

  • Attention to Detail:

    • High precision in wiring to avoid errors that could compromise security or functionality.

  • Certifications (Desirable):

    • HND or certification in Electrical Engineering or a related field.

    • Training in defence systems or industrial control panels.

  • Experience:

    • Previous experience in industrial wiring, especially in defence or aerospace sectors
