As part of the ongoing customer support, Dematic is actively looking to recruit a Controls Engineer to join the growing team in Modification and Upgrades. MU (Modifications & Upgrades) is an essential division within Dematic that supports live/operational automated material handling sites to deliver improvement projects.
The Controls Engineer will develop, implement, and support hardware/software solutions for Modernisation and Upgrade projects. You will be providing control solutions, including software design and commissioning, whilst ensuring the solutions meet the cost and timescale requirements of the customer’s project.
Due to the nature of the role, you will be expected to travel to various customer sites to conduct site surveys and better understand their needs. The primary location of the team is in Wellingborough, but we do offer remote working as part of the position due to the travel requirements.

Tasks and Qualifications:
Key Responsibilities:
To provide controls solution for a material handling project involving software design and commissioning.
Ensure the solution meets the requirements of the project and is carried out within cost and time scale constraints.
To understand the constraints of working on live sites and provide solutions that minimise the disruptions to client operations whilst working within the project scope.
To provide support, attend to system faults and perform investigation and fault rectification where necessary.
To assist in developing and maintaining departmental procedures and standards, promoting a continuous improvement culture.
Production of PLC software, including safety-compliant code.
Production of all associated documentation including, but not limited to Functional Design Specifications, test specifications, and commissioning checklists.
To commission controls systems on site and to provide support to system integration commissioning activities.
Qualifications & Experience:
HNC or HND, or equivalent qualification, in electrical engineering or a similar field.
Proven experience producing PLC software within an automated materials handling environment or similar industries i.e., manufacturing or production.
Previous experience in producing PLC software inclusive of safety-compliant code.
A working knowledge of Siemens Step 7/TIA would be an advantage, but we will also consider those with programming experience on other PLC platforms.
Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate with multi-disciplined teams.
Full UK Driving Licence and ability to travel to sites when required approx. 50%
Ability to work outside of core hours to meet the project objectives. (Weekends and Nights)
