Job Title: Coastal Specialist
Salary: £35,000 - £50,000
Location: Haywards Heath or Portsmouth
Type: Permanent, Full-Time, Hybrid (Office attendance three days a week)

About the Role

Our client is seeking a Coastal Specialist to join their Marine and Coastal Risk Management (MCRM) Group. This role offers the opportunity to work in the Edinburgh office or support coastal work from Haywards Heath or Portsmouth.

You will be at the forefront of coastal engineering, focusing on analysing hydrodynamic and beach morphodynamic data, understanding nearshore coastal processes, and predicting future coastal change using advanced numerical models.

Key Responsibilities

Process and analyse coastal data.
Apply numerical models (e.g., XBeach, SWAN, UNIBEST) to deliver impactful consultancy and research projects.
Analyse and interpret model outputs.
Produce technical reports and presentations.
Conduct site visits and occasional surveys.
Develop innovative methodologies to expand services and improve predictions of coastal change.

What Our Client is Looking For

Essential Attributes:

Degree (Bachelors and Masters) in Coastal Engineering, Coastal Geomorphology, Oceanography, or related fields.
Strong analytical and programming skills (MATLAB, Python).
Experience with GIS software and data processing.
Knowledge of nearshore hydrodynamics and morphodynamics.
Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Desirable Attributes:

PhD in a relevant subject.
Chartered or working towards chartered status (e.g., ICE, CIWEM).
Experience with numerical models such as Delft3D or TELEMAC.
Familiarity with remote sensing and coastal image processing.
Experience in data collection and management for coastal projects.
