Grinding Machine Operator

Location: Aldershot, Surrey
Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent (Afternoon/Evening Shift)
Working Hours: Monday – Thursday 14:45 – 00:00
Salary: £16.00 – £17.50 per hour + 20% shift premium

Due to continued growth and investment, the company is looking for an experienced Grinding Machine Operator to join its skilled production team on the afternoon/evening shift.

Job Profile

The Grinding Machine Operator will operate and set up grinding machines to produce high-quality, conforming components. This hands-on role involves preparing machines, inspecting finished parts, and ensuring all products meet strict specifications. The position suits individuals with a strong background in manufacturing, high attention to detail, and confidence using inspection tools and equipment.

Key Responsibilities / Duties

  • Set up and operate grinding machines as per product specifications.

  • Adjust and change machine settings and tooling for each job in a timely manner.

  • Grind, deburr, and polish components to meet shape, finish, and dimensional requirements.

  • Interpret and work from engineering drawings accurately.

  • Monitor and adjust machine parameters as needed to ensure quality and output targets are achieved.

  • Use inspection tools such as micrometers and verniers to check component dimensions and complete validation sheets.

  • Perform in-process inspections to maintain consistent production quality.

  • Run multiple machines simultaneously where applicable based on job requirements.

  • Record production data and report any deviations or issues to supervisors promptly.

  • Support colleagues across the department to ensure smooth and efficient operations.

  • Follow company quality procedures and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the work area.

  • Adhere to all health and safety policies and complete required training.

    Requirements / Skills

    Essential:

  • 3–5 years’ experience in a similar machining or manufacturing role.

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.

  • Proficient in the use of measurement equipment such as micrometers and verniers.

  • Strong mathematical and technical skills.

  • Familiarity with systematic problem-solving techniques.

  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.

  • Ability to meet deadlines and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Team-oriented with a proactive attitude.

  • Adaptable and willing to learn new processes.
