King’s College Hospital is investing in the expansion of the medicines management service. As a result of this we have an exciting opportunity to become a part of the medicines management pharmacy team based at our Denmark Hill site. The team delivers a high-quality service to our patients on the wards at one of London's largest and busiest teaching hospitals.


The successful applicant will be involved in medicines reconciliation, supporting stock management, operational pharmacy satellite duties, counselling patients and working with the pharmacists to provide an efficient and accurate clinical pharmacy service to patients at ward level. In addition, you will participate in general dispensary duties, including dispensing and accuracy checking. 


In order to be successful in this role, you will need to be organised, motivated, have excellent communication skills and be able to adapt quickly to new situations. 
Registration as a pharmacy technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) is essential as well as holding ACPT accreditation or be willing to work towards it.

Main duties of the job

To provide a specialist patient-focused technical pharmacy service. To counsel patients and/or their carers on their medication. To assess suitability of patients’ medicines on admission and discharge. To provide appropriate and sufficient supplies of medication during admission and on discharge. To facilitate discharge through the timely and efficient supply of medicines. To liaise with ward and pharmacy staff to facilitate the efficient transfer of medication and relevant information when patients move wards. To follow through any relevant queries arising from patient transfer or discharge. To liaise with pharmacists, ward staff, general practitioners, community pharmacists and other primary healthcare professionals as required to resolve queries and ensure accurate patient medication histories are obtained, in line with local policy. In liaison with pharmacists, to obtain and document patient medication histories, after appropriate training and/or accreditation. To support with individual patient medication management issues, within own skills and expertise.
