Job description
Our client, a leading aerospace company, is seeking a Chief Inspector to join their team on a permanent basis. As the Chief Inspector, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the quality of parts and assemblies, as well as providing specialist inspection capabilities across various business functions. Your expertise in inspection and management will be vital in maintaining compliance with quality standards and driving continuous improvement.
What you'll do:
Line management of employees within the Goods-Inwards team, including task management and day-to-day workload allocation. Manage the performance and personal development plans of the QC Metrology team based in the Goods Inward and Despatch areas. Act as Quality Senior Manager delegate when required. Monitor and validate the quality of parts and assemblies, providing specialist inspection expertise across different business functions. Act as the quality focal point within the Integrated Product Team by delivering effective quality solutions. Ensure local Quality Management System compliance and drive continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities:
Manage the Quality Control Inspectors, including task allocation, performance management, and recruitment within the QC Metrology team. Conduct product quality checks on incoming goods, evaluating conformance to engineering requirements and checking supporting paperwork. Inspect partial assemblies according to engineering requirements. Raise Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) for non-conforming products detected during goods inspection and provide support for production-detected non-conformities. Provide ad-hoc inspection support for specific product demands. Liaise with suppliers and manufacturing staff to resolve queries and issues. Review completed supplier-generated First Article Inspections (FAIs) and Grade 1 part control plans, updating relevant systems accordingly. Support Supplier Quality Engineers and Quality Engineering as needed. Conduct sample product audits of Ship to Stock parts. Support the internal Calibration programme for measurement equipment. Perform part investigations and measurements for engineering and business teams. Ensure compliance with legal health and safety requirements and cooperate with management.
Qualifications:
HNC or equivalent experience. Good working knowledge of Quality Standards such as AS9100 and AS9102. Working knowledge of PPAP, FAIR, MSA, Control and Inspection Plans. CMM trained programmer level using 3D models. Metrology knowledge.
Skills:
Proven background in Quality Control and a thorough understanding of Quality tools. Familiarity with general inspection techniques and their appropriate selection. Familiarity with AS9100 & AS9102 FAIR requirements. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and 3D models, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing. Capability to operate independently while demonstrating a willingness to reassess when new data or information becomes available. Understanding of non-conformance processes. Effective communication and interaction skills with suppliers and internal customers. Proficiency in programming, operation, and data interpretation of CMM reports. Basic understanding of Microsoft Office packages.
