Building Regulations & Compliance Consultant

To support our ambitious growth plans, we have a great opportunity to join our Building and Real Estate Division. SOCOTEC is the market-leading independent provider of Building Control, we pride ourselves on being the experts and leading authority on building controls within the industry.

A technical role responsible for delivering high-quality Building Regulations and Compliance consultancy services. The Building Regulations Consultant will provide expert guidance to clients, support project delivery from design to completion, and ensure compliance with statutory building control and Building Safety Regulator (BSR) submission requirements. The role involves close collaboration with senior colleagues, project teams, and external stakeholders while contributing to the growth and reputation of the Building & Real Estate Division.

Working across a variety of projects both autonomously and as part of a wider team, tasks you will be required to undertake as part of your role include (but are not limited to):

Technical Delivery:

  • Review and assess plans, drawings, and technical specifications to ensure full compliance with current Building Regulations and associated statutory requirements
  • Conduct site inspections to verify construction quality, regulatory compliance, and adherence to approved design standards
  • Produce clear and detailed technical reports, compliance assessments, and professional recommendations for clients and project stakeholders
  • Provide training, guidance, and support in the development, implementation, and application of documentation and processes required to meet Building Regulations and Building Safety Regulator standards
  • Collaborate with senior consultants and the Business Unit Director in the successful delivery of complex and high-risk projects
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in legislation, regulatory guidance, and industry best practice, and apply this knowledge to project work

Client Engagement:

  • Act as a key point of contact for allocated projects, providing timely technical advice
  • Build strong relationships with clients, design teams, and contractors
  • Represent the business professionally at client meetings and site visits

Project Management:

  • Manage allocated projects to ensure timely delivery, quality, and budgetary control
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, records, and compliance reports
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across technical disciplines

Quality & Compliance:

  • Ensure all work meets internal quality assurance procedures and external regulatory requirements
  • Escalate high-risk or complex issues to senior colleagues where appropriate
  • Promote a culture of health, safety, and compliance across all project activities

Professional Development:

  • Participate in training and CPD to maintain and enhance professional knowledge
  • Contribute to team learning by sharing expertise and supporting junior colleagues

  • Associate or full membership of CABE, RICS, CIOB, or equivalent professional body (or working towards)
  • CSCS Card
  • Relevant qualifications in Building Control, Building Surveying, Architecture or related discipline
  • 37 years’ experience in Design, Building Regulations and/or Building Control consultancy
  • Practical experience assessing plans and conducting site inspections
  • Exposure to a range of building types, ideally including complex or higher-risk projects
  • Demonstrated ability to manage client relationships and deliver projects effectively
  • Strong technical knowledge of Building Regulations and associated guidance
  • Effective communication skills verbal, written, and report writing
  • Good organisational and project management skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Analytical and problem-solving mindset
