Technical Workshop Lead – Prototyping & Assembly

ASL Technical is recruiting on behalf of a cutting-edge engineering firm known for delivering precision-engineered systems across high-performance sectors, including automotive, aerospace, marine, and defence. With roots in Formula 1 and a growing portfolio that includes hypercar technologies and sustainable marine solutions, our client is seeking a Technical Workshop Lead to oversee and evolve their workshop capabilities during an exciting growth phase.

About the Role

Reporting directly to the Engineering Director, the Technical Workshop Lead will manage all on-site workshop activities — from fabrication and assembly to prototyping and testing. This is a hybrid position that blends hands-on technical leadership with CAD involvement to support end-to-end development and delivery.

You'll play a vital role in bridging design with build, while ensuring workshop safety, performance, and quality standards are upheld at all times.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead and manage day-to-day operations across fabrication, assembly, testing, and rework.

Collaborate closely with design and engineering teams on prototyping and iteration.

Maintain all workshop equipment, machinery, and tooling to ensure optimal performance.

Manage material inventory, scheduling, and ordering processes.

Uphold and promote best practices in health & safety and workshop organisation.

Contribute to or influence CAD design activities where appropriate (CATIA V5 preferred).

Support the development of jigs, fixtures, and test rigs.

Drive improvements in workflow, layout, and operational efficiency.

Represent workshop activities in technical discussions with suppliers, clients, and internal teams.

What We’re Looking For:

Skills & Experience:

Proven experience in a hands-on workshop, fabrication, or R&D prototyping environment.

Solid mechanical knowledge including assembly, machining, and tooling.

Strong practical problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Familiarity with safety protocols and quality standards in a workshop setting.

Personal Attributes:

Proactive and resourceful with a hands-on approach

Effective communicator and team player

Solutions-focused and adaptable to changing project needs

Reliable and deadline-driven, with pride in quality work

What’s on Offer:

Competitive pay (based on experience)

25 days annual leave (plus bank holidays, pro-rated)

Collaborative, dynamic work environment

Involvement in high-impact engineering projects

Team lunches and regular social events

Opportunity to transition to a permanent role depending on performance and project demand
