Job Title: Applications Engineer

Location: Newcastle

Salary: £45,000 + 30% Nightshift Allowance

Shifts: Shift pattern: 2 weeks days / 2 weeks nights or permanent nights

  • Nights: 21:45 – 7:30

  • Days: Monday 7:30 – 15:30, Tuesday-Wednesday 7:30 – 16:00, Thursday 7:30 – 15:30, Friday 7:30 – 13:30

Operating from their secure, integrated manufacturing facility in Newcastle upon Tyne, they manufacture 3mm diameter to 50 tonne components for customers in a wide variety of sectors, including civil nuclear, defence, aerospace, marine and oil & gas.

    Job Description:

    As an Applications Engineer, you will be responsible for optimizing CNC machining processes to enhance efficiency, reduce downtime, and maintain the highest quality standards. This role requires expertise in process improvement, troubleshooting, and developing CNC programs to improve precision and efficiency. You will work closely with manufacturing engineers, tooling partners, and production teams to implement innovative machining solutions.

    Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify and implement process improvements in CNC machining.

  • Develop and optimise CNC programs to enhance precision and efficiency.

  • Evaluate and integrate new CNC technologies and tooling solutions.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with minimal disruption to production.

  • Provide technical training and support to machine operators.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to refine machining methods.

  • Ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.

  • Maintain a proactive approach to continuous improvement initiatives.

    Skills & Experience:

  • A recognised apprenticeship in a relevant engineering or manufacturing discipline.

  • Strong background in CNC machining and process optimization.

  • Ability to read and interpret manufacturing drawings and CMM reports.

  • Experience with CNC programming, tooling selection, and machine setup.

  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing planning and multiple machining disciplines.

  • Strong communication skills to engage with cross-functional teams.

  • A continuous improvement mindset with experience in lean manufacturing.

  • Offline programming experience is advantageous (training provided if required).
