The role combines hands-on mission concept definition, requirements derivation, trade-off analysis and system architecture with line management, task planning, appraisals and recruitment. Distinct for its blend of deep space systems engineering and people leadership in an on-orbit servicing context.

Lead the Ground Systems Team, owning the ground segment architecture, requirements and technical baseline across all subsystems, from conceptual design to maintenance. Drive integration, verification and validation, interface coherence and supplier technical governance, while line-managing 4-6 engineers and interfacing between Mission & Systems, Operations and Ground Segment Software teams.

Designs satellite mechanical hardware including secondary structures, thermal-control hardware, cable routing and mechanisms, while managing a large shared 3D CAD assembly using top-down design and skeleton models. Maintains PLM data, BOMs and change control, runs clash checks and produces GD&T manufacturing drawings, supporting PDR/CDR reviews, prototyping and environmental testing in a small multidisciplinary team.

Runs the propulsion test programme that turns AURA RF gridded ion thruster designs into verified, flight-ready hardware, using NewOrbit's own vacuum facilities. Builds test rigs, operates vacuum systems, RF generators, high-voltage supplies and thrust balances, runs plasma diagnostics and feeds findings back to the design team. Works closely with propulsion, mechanical, electrical and control engineers on NEO-1 and customer thruster deliveries.
